Revenge of DFT Revenge of DFT was actually started in 1996. Ben was on guitar, Alfred was on bass and vocals, and they had a drummer who didn't have a drum set. They played around for a year or so, but with nowhere to practice, no p.a., and a great lack of equipment, they weren't getting much accomplished. So they pretty much split up to play with other people who had the things they didn't. Enter 2002. After about 6 years of playing sub par music with sub par musicians, Ben and Alfred decided to start playing music together again. They started practicing at Ben's house, writing some new songs. Al had a set of songs that he'd play on guitar and vocals while Ben drummed, and vice versa. After doing this for a while as a two-piece, Alfred got discouraged and left to join a more "radio-friendly" band. Around this time, Ben started working at a music store with Gabe. He was playing bass in a ska type band at the time. He was easily the best musician. After realizing that he was capable of doing better than what he was presently doing, he quit his band. He and Ben started a two-piece bass and drums band. They wrote 4 songs together. About may 2003, Alfred was losing interest in the band he was in, and we started talking about getting DFT together, with Gabe playing bass. After the first practice, they knew that things could work out. They decided to keep the original name DFT (dysfunctional family tree). They added 'revenge of' to signify that they wanted to put some danger back into rock and roll. Ben had recently bought his first drum set, and was practicing almost everyday. He went from being someone who could play the drums, to being a drummer. So he decided to just stick to the drums and let Alfred stick to guitar. Still wanting to do vocals, he and Al started switching up on vocals, and also doing harmonies. They were practicing and writing songs as much as possible. They played a few shows, and in summer 2004, recorded their first demo. They played more shows, wrote more songs, and in December 2004 recorded their second demo. Roots and influences Rancid, Misfits, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, the Offspring, sketch comedy, Beavis and Butthead, and beer.
