AS HISTORY
The
AS qualification will be graded on a five point scale (A, B, C, D, E) and the A
Level qualification will be graded on a six point scale (A*, A, B, C, D, E).
Candidates who fail to reach the minimum standard for a grade E will be recorded
as U (Ungraded) and will not receive a qualification certificate. Grade A* is
reported only for the overall A Level qualification and not for individual units.
In each unit, a candidate’s uniform mark is calculated from his/her raw mark by using the grade boundaries set by the awarding committee. For example, a candidate who achieved the minimum raw mark required for a grade B on HIS1A receives a uniform mark of 70.
A candidate’s total uniform mark for the AS
qualification is obtained by adding together the uniform marks for the two AS
units. A candidate’s total uniform mark for the A Level qualification is
obtained by adding together the uniform marks for all four units. If the
candidate has re-taken a unit, the best uniform mark is used.
Grade A* is awarded to candidates who have
gained at least 320 uniform marks on the A Level as a whole and a total of at
least 180 uniform marks on the A2 units.
For each unit, candidates’ results are
reported on a uniform mark scale (UMS), which is related to grades as shown in
these tables.
