Butchers Tree at Swan Reach in January 1996, shortly before it was cut down. Mr. Graetz came weekly from Sedan and sold meat from his wagon which he parked in the shade of a large Black Box tree located near the bake house. During the early 1930s Ossie Marks who worked for Graetz, took over the trip to Swan Reach. Trading under the butcher's tree ceased when Ossie purchased the nearby store and bakehouse concluding the tradition under the butchers tree. |
