Historic Scranton Site

When I wrote this page, I was a student at the University of Scranton. I had long admired what is left of the downtown, and can only dream of what the city must have been like in its heyday. I have collected some pictures and links of the buildings and history surrounding the once great city that produced the anthracite coal for the industrial revolution, and was later a major hub for railroading in the United States.

A Panorama of the downtown in 1916 from the Hill Section.  The Church in the center is on the corner of Mulberry & Jefferson and is now the University of Scranton's Houlihan-McLean Center.  The "New" Hotel Casey, Lackawanna Station, Board of Trade Building and The Scranton Life Building on Courthouse Square among other early notable landmarks are noticeable in the distance.

Oppenheim Building is on the immediate right, with Bank
Towers visible in the top left of the picture.
