Indian Killer Ch: 6-14

Ch 6

Begins with introduction of Truck Schultz, a radio spokesperson for KWIZ.

Truck used to host late night jazz and now host a radio talk show w/ a hundred thousand listeners.

Talks about the murdered white man that was scalped and ritually mutated who was discovered at a house in Fremont that same morning.

Says that his sources tell him that it might have been an American Indian that did it.

Asked the audience for their opinion and make a call.

Ch 7

Marie Polatkin(the woman that John Smith met at the powwow) walked in to the first day of her Native American Literature class.

Students gossiped  about the murder in Fremont saying things like, "Like an Indian would do it(scalping)." and "Yeah Indians started that whole scalping business."

Marie, listening all along responds to them and says, "You allve got it all wrong." and, "The French were the first to scalp people in this country.  Indians just copied them."

Marie signed up for the class because she heard that the professor Dr. Clarence

Mather, a white professor supposedly loved Indians.

Accused of being a wannabe Indian by Marie.

She was shocked at the reading material on the course reading list because all of the "Native American" books that were supposed to be read were contradicting to her because all of the authors were white.

Marie also hated the book that was written by the professor because of the inconsistencies and thought that he was full of shit.

She questions his book verbally during a discussion early into class.

After the professor asked for her name, he immediately recognized her cousin who was his former student, Reggie Polatkin, her cousin.

Reggie had been expelled from the university after assaulting Mather for reasons that were never clear.

She continues to question and challenge the professor at all angles of his teachings and contradicts him.

David Rogers is a white student in the same class who took it because
of a
sense of guilt and vague curiosity, was fascinated with Marie.

David had an eye for her because she seemed exotic and bold.

David grew up in a farm near Marie?s reservation.

Spokanes used to arrive in the middle of the night in his families farm to take camas.

On a particular night when he was twelve, David, his dad Buck and older brother

Aaron hid with their riffles to scare off the Indians that tried to steal camas(food).

A car came with seven Indians ready to take some camas.

They got scared off by the gun fire.

David felt like crying as he held the rifle in his hands.

Marie and Mathers argue over the author Jack Wilson who claims to be in the

Shilshomish tribe.  But Marie argues by saying that they no longer exist as a tribe.

After class David stopped Marie to introduce himself and try to get a date but she refused and walked away.

He tried to ask her to be a study partner but she again refuses.

She thought that he wanted a guilt fuck or something to ease his pain.

Aaron asks David about the Indian class at home and David talks about Marie.

Aaron tries to get some sex talk out of David about her.

Ch 8
Mr. Russell(one of the drunks that walked by the killer of the white man in Fremont) is being questioned by the officer.

He is was asked about what he saw but replied by saying that he was too drunk to remember.

One of his friends described the killer as a shadow carrying a white guy on his shoulder.

Russell says that he had long hair but that was it.

He claims that it?s like someone doesn?t want him to remember.

Ch 9

John is walking in a cold rain not sure where he walked or how he arrived at the building.

The phone rings but he ignores it knowing that it was his parents. Then knocking at his door from his parents hoping to catch John.

Daniel and Olivia threatened John with group homes or medication before

John ignored his parents knocking.

John was a very sloppy and messy tenant with junk piled up in his apartment.

John stayed in bed as his parents knocked for hours.

He briefly wondered if it was Marie the Indian woman who danced with him but closed his eyes and saw Father Duncan.

Duncan was a big man half a foot taller than John.

Its the next day and John is at work attached to a wire harness but thought that it would only save a white man.

The leather, metal and rope could tell the difference between white skin and Indian skin, John thought.

John thinks back to the past when he was at the lunch room at St. Francis High School ten years earlier.

A friend named Michael whispers to John saying, "Your mom is a babe." and continues on with the sex tease.

John holds back but eventually releases his anger and beats him up.

Mr. Taylor(principal) calls both of them into his office one at a time, but decides to give John a break and lets him go since he knows that Michael is an ass.

Back into reality, John looks for an escape route as the foreman talks to him because he did not trust him with his life.

But the foreman genuinely worried about John.

John and the foreman had never been friends even though they have been working together for so long.

John recently started to take more break time alone on the fortieth floor and spent most of his time working there alone.

During dinner at the foreman?s home, they watched the news and saw the report on the murdered white male in Fremont and pulls his wife closer and thought of John.

The foreman began to have a queasy stomach before work and his wife wondered if her was afraid of John.

The foreman dreamed about standing on the top floor of the sky scrapper in Seattle and it was dark.  A dark figure turned to his back was also there with something in his hand.
