Feeling frustrated that her husband had not made it back from his journey, Soccorro screamed yelling you fool to her husband out of anger that he didnt take them to Europe but instead tried to save Mexico first.
Lupe took her Colonels jacket that Soccorro had thrown out and found a twisted pine tree to bury the suit into in memory of him
Vicotiano regretted going back to the ramada to get their lunch because he could have prevented Don Benito from using all the explosives for gold.
As Lupe and Victoriano was getting ready to bury the suit, her eyes glistened by the site of the fawn that she saw whose eyes reminded her of Colonel
She became inseparable with the deer taking it everywhere except school
The Kids at school began tocall Lupe the deer girl
Senor Jones sent his family to US permanently (His girl Katie Jones was Lupes classmate)
Senor Munoz asked Lupe for a favor secretly to bring her her mothers famous goat cheese tortillas in the morning.
Lupe noticed that Manuelita also brought Senora Munos food (sweetbreads).
The reason for her asking for food is because she wasnt getting paid anymore by Senor Jones after Senora Jones left for the US (SF) since he was under no obligation.
But the towns people got mad at Don Manuel(mayor) for not informing them.
The Towns decided to take turns to invite Senora Munoz(teacher) to dinner every night and continue pennies each week to compensate for her loss wages.
But after the teacher caught on to what the community was doing, she refused but got convicted eventually.
2 days later Senor Jones acted as if she hated the townspeople and shut down the school.  But the people moved her into town once again behind Dona Manzas Bakery.
One evening Don Tiburcio came to visist the family in the ramada dressed up bringing a box of chocolates for the whole family. That never had chocolate before
Chocolate was a great luxury for their family and they were amazed by the beautiful candy wrap.
Don Tiburcio was 30 years old and had an eye for Sophia
That night he asked Sophias mother for her hand in marriage.

Dona Guadalupe, Lupe, Victoriano, Esabel and Maria found tons of gold buried in the plaza but couldn't get it processed fast enough before the rains.
Victoriano came up with an idea to process the gold faster with bull horns.
The final process step was to burn the gold into tiny balls that weighed 5 grams each.
They hid the gold in the potted plants infront of the house so that if the bandits came back they wouldn't find it.
They worked so much that they lacked food and gold wasn't the problem.
Lupe's mouth watered at the aroma of meat cooking when she followed the smell, her pet deer was hanging from a tree, this wanted to make her vomit
La Gente feasted on her deer.
Sophias ship went down in storm, their father Don Victor told them this after he traveled a weeks worth trip in only three days.
He began to run a fever and became unconcious.
Lupe's mother did not believe Sophia was dead.
Ojos Puros told Dona Guadalupe that the gold was evil and was the one that caused the death.
Dona Guadalupe stopped Ojos Puros and the chanting Indians and commanded them to leave.
Four days later Don Victor started to regain strength.
He explained to Dona Maza and her two sons where and how to cross the river.
The only ones left in the canyon were Lupe's family and the Indians.
It was time to leave the canyon and Dona Guadalupe wanted to take something that reminded her of her home: the lillies.
Lupe cried at the sight of leaving her beautiful home.
Late afternoon they came to the cliffs called Gateway Del Diablo
Lupe got a stomach pain and wasn't able to keep up. Blood started running down her legs and she fell to the ground.
She thought she was dying but her older sister told her that she was only becoming a woman.
Lupe felt good and warm later on laying with her mother next to the river. she reamt of her new life that was to come and knew her youth was gone

The boys didnt believe the stores about their ancestors and this makes Juan mad.

Juan went to a restaurant and ordered ham and eggs (15 cents) and coffee (5 cents)
