Solar, wind power for BPCL
BPCL is venturing into solar and wind power projects as alternative sources of energy for captive power generation. While it will set up solar panels in its retail outlets to energise the fuelling machines, its refineries will be powered by wind energy.
The company has undertaken the task of establishing a 5 MW wind energy farm in Karnataka to meet the energy needs of its refinery located in the same region. The Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C - WET) has already ratified the Rs 25 crore venture and tenders are currently being evaluated and management approval is awaited.
BPCL's outlets in Bangalore and Kolkata will be equipped with a series of solar panels in a month's time with a total investment of upto Rs 20 lakh for each retail outlet.
