GOLDEN SPOON SPA – PITTSBURGH, PA-MARCH 2006

My spa experiences all began when I took a mid-week trip to Pittsburgh in March 2006. I moreso went as a tag-along to a friend who went for a business conference. Hence I had plenty of free time that I needed to occupy solo. Therefore, my adventures lead me to THE GOLDEN SPOON SPA, located inside the Doubletree Hotel in the city center of Pittsburgh. And though my memory must now take me back two years, I do remember enough to share. Upon an initialize "survey" of the spa, I talked with the front desk staff and reviewed the menu. I was a complete virgin to the spa experience and therefore had several questions to help me decide what I would try. After reviewing the prices (reasonable, and they had discounts for persons staying at the hotel), I decided on a Spa Manicure w/Paraffin and a 60 minute Swedish Massage. The spa is small, and so is the waiting area, but the staff was friendly and offered you drinks while you waited. I do not remember a locker room area, but I do remember receiving a robe to change into. My nails were done first and the parrafin treatment felt nice. The technician was friendly and we chatted while she worked. I then had my massage, by a different technician, and since I did not have any previous professional massages to compare it to, my expertise at the time just relied on how I felt afterwards. Needless to say it was a completely RELAXING experience, I felt renewed and rejuvenated… but at the same time felt like taking a nap. It was the perfect end to a mini-vacation and it convinced me that I must treat myself more often to spa experiences. In closing, my rankings for the Golden Spoon Spa are as follows: The Facility – I give a Ranking of 2, as though it was clean and calming, there is not much to talk about compared to other locations. Customer Service- Ranks 4, everyone was friendly/helpful, Amenities – ranks 1 (no real extra amenities except complimentary drinks) Treatment – I would rank my treatments received a 3 (they were basic but worthwhile). Pricing: Reasonable. Overall Rating 2.75 stars.
