National Volunteam Day 2002 is August 10!
National VolunTeam Day (NVD) is a great way to draw attention to the inspiring work done by youth across Canada. Initiated in 1998, National VolunTeam Day coordinates the efforts of youth across the country on one day, focused on a common theme. In addition to the four goals of the Youth Volunteer Corps Program, National VolunTeam Day aims to increase the awareness of the need for youth volunteerism across the country as well as YVCC's position as the leader of the Youth Service Movement.

How Does It Work?
Youth groups across Canada decide to host an NVD project and work with their Youth Volunteers to plan the event Youth across the country can then get involved in the local project in their own city, which is focused on a common theme The common theme is chosen by the National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC) and follows the United Nations’ International Year’s of…
Each local site, as well as the National Office, works to create excitement and media attention about the day's activities.
All participating sites will be a part of a national event and will be connecting with youth in other cities. This reinforces that Youth Volunteers are making a difference in their communities and, on a larger scale, throughout the country!
NVD Theme 2002:
This year NVD will honor the International Year of Mountains (IYM). The aim of the IYM is to ensure the well being of mountain and lowland communities by promoting the conservation and sustainable development of mountain ranges.
YVC recognizes that not all NVD projects will take place in areas of Canada where there are mountain ranges and therefore, we have decided to metaphorically celebrate IYM. After much consideration it was decided that youth volunteers across Canada could create ‘mountains’ of pop cans. By doing this we could accomplish three things:
Promoting IYM, recycling and caring for our environment. Showing goodwill from youth volunteers to the community in the form of funds raised for charity from the recycling of the cans.
Each pop can would also help to create a small mountain of pop can tabs that would help to buy a wheel chair for someone with mobility issues.
This year’s theme is ‘mountains’ and our slogan is:
