| "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding: That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins." Colossians 1:9-14 Here, we have Paul's prayer for the Colossians. This is one of the most wonderful prayers in Scripture. It is a prayer that touches all the bases, and should be very helpful for us today. We are cleansed by the blood of Christ. He has translated us out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the Son of His love. He has sealed us with His Holy Spirit. ". . . if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" (Romans 8:9). He has saved us eternally from the very moment we first believed His gospel. Therefore, as we pray for our country and those who have lost loved ones, let us not forget to give thanks and praise Him for all things we are blessed with. Paul wanted the Colossians to be wise, but he also wanted them to use their knowledge. Knowledge of God is not a secret that only a few can discover ~ it is open to everyone! God wants us to learn more about Him, and to put our belief into practice by sharing with and helping others. Application: We may wonder how to pray for others we have never met. Well, remember Paul had never met the Colossians, but he faithfully prayed for them. His prayer teaches us how to pray for others, whether we know them or not. We can request that they understand what God wants them to do, gain Spiritual wisdom, honor and please Him, continually do good and kind things for others, learn to know God better each day, be strengthened with God's glorious power, have great patience and endurance, stay full of Christ's joy, and remember to give thanks always. When you don't know how to pray for someone, use Paul's prayer pattern for the Colossians. Have a blessed day in the Lord ~ continue to pray for our country and lost souls. Love in Christ, Sandy |
