| "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Romans 12:10-13 How long would you keep an automobile that had to be pushed each time you got in it to go somewhere? How much pleasure would you find in this type of vehicle? Now, you might keep a vehicle that needed a push on occasion, but surely you wouldn't keep it for long if weren't really able to depend on it to take you where you wanted to go when you were ready. Well, the Lord is no more pleased with one of His servants that continually has to be pushed than you would be with your not-so-dependable vehicle which needs pushing! God wants servants of initiative and fervency of spirit. Paul taught us here in this scripture to be diligent, "Not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord." A man who has to be pushed continually in order to keep him in service and attending worship is not devoted to the cause. It is understandable that a new christian, a new convert, might need to be pushed or encouraged, but if one who has been a Christian for many years must still be pushed, something is definitely wrong! That person is not growing spiritually as they should. They are not spiritually mature! Application: ARE YOU PUSHING, CHRISTIAN? OR DO YOU NEED A PUSH? THINK ABOUT IT! |
