| "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105 Some Bible verses are like lanterns ~ they were made for dark places and dark hours in our lives. Here is an illustration you perhaps will enjoy: There was a little girl on a train with her mother and as the train was traveling during the day, the trainman was going through the car lighting the lamps. The little girl asked her mother, "Why is he lighting the lamps in the middle of the day when the sun is shining so brightly?" The mother smiled and said, "Wait a bit and you will see what the lights are for." A minute or two later the train plunged into a long, dark tunnel, and then the little girl saw the wisdom of the lamplighting process. You know, our Bible contains thousands of verses that seem very ordinary and unnecessary. We wonder sometimes why God has gone through so much trouble to place them there, lighting those lamps of truth. But one day we will be going (and some have already gone) into the tunnel of bereavement, or the tunnel of temptation, or the tunnel of suffering, and then we will appreciate the value of those lamplighting verses. Application: To walk safely at night, we carry a flashlight or lantern so that we can see our way through the darkness without stumbling. In this life we are walking through a dark forest of evil. But we have a light called the Bible to show us the way and lead us to safety, allowing us to keep from stumbling along the way. It reveals the entangling roots of false values ~ it reveals the truth! It keeps us going down the right path always! May God bless you with a wonderful day as you study your Bible so that you may see your way clear enough to stay on the right path. Love in Christ Jesus, Sandy |
