". . . Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for GOD RESISTETH THE PROUD, AND GIVETH GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1Peter 5:5-7

There appear to be two classes of Christians as we look around us today ~ the proud who imagine they are humble and the humble who are afraid they are proud. There should be another class ~ the self-forgetful people who leave everything in the hands of God and refuse to waste time trying to make themselves good. We read in Job 22:21, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee."

The truly humble person does not expect to find virtue in themselves, and when they find none they are not disappointed. They know that any good deed they may do is the result of God's work within them.

The promises of God are made to the humble. The proud person, by his pride, forfeits every blessing promised to the lowly heart, and from the hand of God, they need expect only justice.

We should be armed with humility. Peter talks a great deal about humility and about grace. A proud person will not be able to experience the grace of God. It is only when we come in humility that we will be able to know His grace. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." In view of the coming of Christ humility should be the attitude of the child of God. Christ is the One who will establish justice and make things right when He comes. We cannot straighten out this world, though I know we all wish we could. All we can offer it is the sharing of God's Word, the wonderful Good News of Christ Jesus, His gift of Salvation, and marvelous grace.

"He careth for you" literally means that it matters to Him concerning you. Peter is talking about anxiety. The Lord Jesus said,
"Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heaven laden, and I will rest you." Bring your burdens of sins to Him, and He will meet you and help you with your troubles. Cast your cares upon Him. Paul told the Philippian believers, "Worry about nothing; pray about everything." Take it to the Lord in prayer, and leave it there ~ don't pick it up again.
God bless you as you clothe yourself with humility and allow the Holy Spirit to fulfill God's moral law within you today and always.

Love in Christ Jesus,
Sandy
