| "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distresses of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." Luke 21:25-28 I believe this gives reference to what it is going to be like in the last days before Christ returns to earth. There are people who quote this verse and say it is a picture of today, but in all honesty folks, to quote a common phrase, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" If you think we are seeing a fulfillment of this verse now, you are wrong. Things are bad today, most assuredly ~ political crises, social distress are cause for great concern, and physical disturbances are overwhelming ~ but they are going to get much worse in the last days! Imagine that, if you will. Christ could return at any moment. Things are happening so fast today that the church, the body of Christ, could be taken from this earth possibly before you have finished reading this devotion. If so, I hope that we will be seeing each other as we come into His presence!! We are in no position to know whether these things are beginning to come to pass, as none of us has that "inside" information. But we can say, if you are in Christ, that our salvation and redemption is nearer now than when we first believed! We know that He is coming back and that is what should be most important to us! The picture of the coming persecutions and natural disasters may seem somewhat gloomy, but ultimately it is a cause for us not to worry, but rather, for great joy! As believers see these events happening, they will know that the return of their Messiah is nearing, and can look forward to His reign of justice and peace. Rather than being terrified of what is happening around us in our nation, let us do works for the Lord that we were assigned to do ~ Go out and tell all people! ~ as we confidently await His return!
