| Jeremiah 36 "And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jerusalem from the LORD, saying, Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day(vv1-2). Now the king sat in the winterhouse to the ninth month; and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth" (vv22-23). This chapter reveals the attitude which Jehoiakim had toward the Word of God and the messages God sent to him through His prophet Jeremiah. Jehoiakim took it and flung it into the fire! He didn't care for it, he didn't accept it, and he didn't believe it! Today, the Bible is the #1 best seller of all books. But who is actually READING the Bible today? Here is a little jingle that illustrates the condition in our country today: "Maw, I found an old, dusty thing high upon the shelf. Just look!" "Why, that's a Bible, Tommy dear, be careful. That's God's Book." "God's Book?" the young one said, "Then, Maw, before we lose it we'd better give it back to God, 'cause you know we never use it." Where does your Bible lay in your home? You know, ignoring the Bible is really no different from throwing it into the fire as Jehoiakim did. God bless you~have a joy-filled day in the Lord! <J><E><S><U><S>< <S><A><V><E><S>< |
