| "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it." Job 1:6-7 Why would we ever want to know the devil? I'll tell you ~ because we will never overcome him unless we know something of his sinister purposes, his devious tactics and his universal influence. He controls people! He had even been able to control people who walked in the physical presence of Jesus. Near the end of our Lord's earthly ministry, he predicted His own death. Peter resisted the thought that such a thing could happen. He lies! He is the father of lies and he masquerades as an angel of light. He can start with a premise or a practice that is clearly the opposite of what God wants and put a spin on it that makes it sound like you have God's backing for the most evil deeds imaginable! He has universal influence! You cannot go anywhere on this earth where Satan does not go! He is always "walking up and down in it." We need to prepare ourselves for his devious works in our lives. He is very, very tricky! Let us resist Satan and force him to flee from us! Application: Keep in mind always, that Satan can only offer you "things" ~ nothing more! But Jesus offers you abundant life ~ life to its fullest ~ with promise for both the present life and the life to come. Don't be foolish ~ don't look for life and peace in "things." Don't underestimate the power of Satan in your life, for he will do his best to distract you and pull you away from the Lord.
