The race is almost even after this roll (Red is one pip ahead White on roll:163-9+4-159=-1), so White needs to start his own advanced anchor in order to equalize his position unless he can point on or hit loose. 3-1 is a good point-on number, anyway, but White would rather start an advanced anchor with other 3's except for 3-3. 13/8 puts a valuable spare on the 8-point, which can be a nice builder/attacker for the 4-point. |
