In the early 80's, I always ran with 24/14.  I've been making the 2-point since med 80's.
Compared to the opening 6-4, Red seems to have less incentive to run since he's down in the race and White hits with a 6-5 though after 24/14 the race is close if White misses the shot.
Making the 2-point seems to be a bit like "closing the barnyard gate after the cows have escaped".

The 3-point doesn't seem to be worth fighting for, but very interestingly and surprisingly, the 2-ply rollout show that hitting wins most games.

I am not sure I will try 13/3* for money, but I think I will definitely try this play at DMP and GG.

At GS, 24/14 ought to be best.
