Pointing on your opponent's head on the 2-point after he has split with an ace is in most circumstances only slightly correct. It takes away half your opponent's roll, and makes the inner-board point though it is a relatively weak one. However, if there are any other alternatives, I would rather not point on the 2-point early in the game because the game plan is usually limited after the play. As a 6-4 response to an opening 5-1, however, making the 2-point is clearly correct. If Red chooses to run, he is clearly an underdog since White has already advanced 6 pips and split his backmen/runners. 8/2* 6/2 is definitely the right choice for money and at all scores.
