I usually hit and build at GG or when I am behind in the match where my gammon values are higher than that of my opponent.
For money and at even scores, I often prefer a building play against a weaker opposition.
The split to the 22-point isn't nearly so strong as a split to more advanced points. Also, bringing the builder down will tend to lead to more gammonish positions for both sides.
