It is quite bad to miss after opponent's 2-1 slot and any play leaves a large disadvantage, so it is important to split the back checkers and try for a better anchor.

I don't like 24/16 because it looks one-dimensional, non-enterprising, and non-complicating, yet the play may be as good or better than 13/5 or 13/7 13/11 and it may be a good choice against a much stronger player.

I like 13/7 13/11 better than 13/5 since 13/7 13/11 takes away 6-2 as a hit and cover number, and there is something to be said for having White play his 6's on my side of the board.  Additionally this play leaves Red some nice counter-play.

Against a weaker opponent, I would double-slot with 13/7 6/4 which duplicates White's 3's and 6's.

While there are plenty of hit and cover numbers for White, I think that 24/18 13/11 is technically the best play.
