White's 8-point is stripped, so Red can split his back checkers with less risk, since some of White's attacking plays cost him
the 8-point. In this sort of positions, I prefer splitting to the point which my opponent least wants to make.
Also, in this position, White's 4's are duplicated, which has to be a strong argument for splitting to the 21-point.
