Splitting looks better than slotting against White's made 5-point.
Slotting may lead to a blot-hitting contest where Red has the worst of it since White has the stronger board.
Splitting takes advantage of White's stripped 8-point, so by putting pressure on it Red takes away the power of some of White's good rolls.
In addition, 24/23 increases the chances of making an advanced anchor which would help to nullify White's advantage.
True, there is some danger of being attacked, but White doesn't have enough ammunition for an attack.

At GG, Red should be heading for more gammonish positions, but it is not clear that 13/11 6/5 will accomplish this.
If White hits it is White who has the start of an advanced anchor, and if White gets that advanced anchor Red's gammon chances go way down.
Also, one of the best ways of increasing gammon chances is to send more checkers back, and 24/23 increases Red's chances of sending a third checker back.
Thus, I would also go with 24/23 13/11 at a GG score.
