LINEN AND WOOL

Deuteronomy 22:11 "Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together."

Why did G-d command the children of Israel not to wear a garment of linen and wool?

The linen represents the good works of man, for men make linen.

The wool represents the divine work of G-d. (G-d's Grace). Only G-d can make it.

So a garment combining linen and wool would represent human works mixed with G-d's Grace.

By this figure G-d reveals to us His displeasure at man's schemes and plans to make a different robe of righteousness from that which He ordained.

Man cannot cover himself with a religious garment, which is made partly of G-d's provision in Yeshua, and partly of his own provision in works. Atonement must be completely from G-d with no mixture of mans good works.

We are not saved by grace and kept by works. Nor are we partially saved by grace and partly by works.

This picture, the linen and wool together, tells us the G-d condemns the mixture of grace and works for our atonement.

G-d's gospel of grace cannot be mixed with works.
