Romans Chapter 10 (Continued)

Romans 10:12-15 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same L-rd is L-rd of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for "Whoever will call upon the name of the L-rd will be saved." How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings of good things!"

Paul again quotes a Tanakh verse.

Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace; that brings good tidings of good, that publishes salvation; that said to Zion, Your G-d reigns!

What is interesting is this quotation precedes the 53rd chapter of Isaiah, which is a prophecy of Yeshua's death and resurrection. He opened with the prophet's query, "Who has believed our report?"

Answer: Not very many compared to the world's population. Jew or Gentile for that matter.

Romans 10:16-19 However, they did not all heed the glad tidings; for Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) says, " L-rd, who has believed our report? " So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Messiah (Christ). But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; "Their voice has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? At the first Moshe (Moses) says, "I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, by a nation without understanding will I anger you."

Paul is quoting

D'varim (Deuteronomy) 32:21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not G-d; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those, which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

Romans 10:20-21 And Isaiah is very bold and says, "I was found by those who sought Me not, I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me." But as for Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) He says, "All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people."

Paul is quoting from

Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 65:1 I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.

"I was found by those who sought Me not " - This is referring to the Gentiles.

"I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people." - This is referring to the Jewish people.
