Matt 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Do we have to give away our possessions to have eternal life? No.
Do we all have to give away all our possession to follow G-d? No
Some of us may have to but the real point was not to love things as much as HaShem and others. This revealed his real heart. He did not follow the instruction like he said he did. Did he?
If only He had said and did differently.
Matt 19:23-26 Then said Yeshua (Jesus) to His disciples, Truly I say to you, That it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of G-d. When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved? But Yeshua (Jesus) looked at them, and said to them, With men this is impossible; but with G-d all things are possible.
Only through belief in what G-ds Son did on the execution stake is it possible.
The man could have returned to G-d later with the right heart. Lets hope He did. We all make mistakes and even the disciples made mistakes but they learned from them. Peter seemed to always be putting his foot in his mouth and later did not want to suffer for the truth. He was later to show his love for the Messiah by dying for declaring the good news. The L-rd never gives up on us. When you are His, and therefore the Fathers He promises to finish the good work He has started in you until completion.
Phil 1:6-7 Being confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ): just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel(good news), you all are partakers with me of mercy (grace).
Matt 19:27 Then answered Peter answered Him, we have left everything to follow you; what then will there be for us?
Matt 19:28 Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Matt 19:29-30 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for My sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many that are first will be last; and the last will be first.
Cycles of life - many that are top dogs in this world will be on the bottom in the other world. Many that are on the bottom of the ladder will be on the top in the other. Many times it comes down to what was important to you and what did you do for Him. Sometimes this requires sacrifices on our part. Many that do things for the glory of fame or money will have received their reward already and will receive less later. If you work for the L-rd for no earthly glory but only to glorify Him you will receive glory from Him later.
