John Chapter 6 (Continued)

Son of man (Adam) will give to you. The Father (Abba) seals the New Covenant through the Son.

John 6:28-29 Then they said to Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of G-d? Yeshua (Jesus) answered and said to them, this is the work of G-d, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.

What work makes us righteous? Trusting Faithfulness. G-d wants us to believe in Yeshua who He sent. This is the work the Father sent the Son to do.

John 6:30-32 They said therefore to Him, What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

Moshe has not given you the bread out of heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.

Moshe gave instructions. The Father gives the Son (the true bread) giving life to the world.

John 6:33-34 For the bread of G-d is He which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world. Then said they to Him, L-rd, from now on give us this bread. And Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to Me shall never hunger; and he that believes on Me shall never thirst.

John 6:35 Yeshua said, I AM the bread of life.

He supplies the never-ending spiritual life, joy, and peace. Only G-d satisfies and our cup runs over.

The bread in the temple symbolized Yeshua.

His Jewish audience should have recognized what He was telling them.

John 6:36 But I said to you, that you also have seen Me, and believe not.

Some did not believe. They did not believe G-d could fulfill the type of old covenant.

John 6:37 All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me; and whoever comes to Me I will never drive away.

The Father must lead us to Him.

John 6:38-39 For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me. And this is the Father's will which has sent Me, that of all which He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

He will never leave us and we will all rise one day to eternal life with G-d.

John 6:40 And this is the will of Him that sent me, that every one which sees the Son, and believes on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

This is the will of the Father.

John 6:41-44 The Jews then murmured at Him, because He said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Yeshua (Jesus), the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, I came down from heaven? Yeshua (Jesus) therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to Me, except the Father which has sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Yeshuas comments about coming down from heaven confuse the Jewish people. They are thinking again in literal terms knowing that He grew in near by Nazareth. They do not realize that He is G-d come down from heaven. However they realize that He is making Himself equal with G-d by His statements.

John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of G-d. Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes to Me.

Yeshua paraphrased Isaiah 54:13: And all your children shall be taught by the L-rd; and great shall be the peace of your children.

John 6:46 Not that any man has seen the Father, save He, which is of G-d, He has seen the Father.

Only Yeshua has seen the true glory of the Father completely.

John 6:47-49 Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on Me has everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

The Fathers that ate of the manna in the wilderness died physical death like we all die.

John 6:50-51 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

Under the New Covenant we will have an everlasting body. Yeshua again tells them that He is the Bread of Life. He clearly tells them here that He will give His flesh (life) for the (eternal) life of the world.

John 6:52 The Jews therefore argued among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

Some did not understand how He gave His flesh and thought that He wanted them to eat His flesh. They missed the point of His discussion.

John 6:53-56 Yeshua (Jesus) therefore said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. "For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

We cannot live on spiritually with the Father unless we repent of our unbelief. Yeshua the Righteous One gave Himself for the sins of the people. Yeshua was speaking metaphorically. Just as eating and drinking are necessary for spiritual life, so is belief in His sacrificial death on the execution stake necessary for eternal life. For the Jews, however, a crucified Messiah was unthinkable (cf. Act 17:1-3)

This passage has nothing to do with the L-rds supper for 2 significant reasons: 1) it had not been instituted yet. 2) if Yeshua was referring to the L-rds supper then the passage would be teaching that it was necessary to partake in the L-rds supper for eternal life.

John 6:57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also shall live because of Me.

This illustrates the close relationship between the Father and Son. G-d is still one!

John 6:58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eats of this bread shall live forever.

This is unlike the manna in the wilderness.

John 6:59-60 These things said He in the synagogue, as He taught in Capernaum. Many therefore of His disciples, when they had heard this, said, this is a hard saying; who can hear it?

This was taught in Capernaum.

It is hard to understand.

John 6:61-62 Aware that His disciples were grumbling about this, Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, "Does this offend you? What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where He was before!

Does this offend you? It does sound disgusting to the natural man.

He will return to where HE came from. What if you saw the resurrection of Yeshua?

John 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

This is speaking about spiritual life.

John 6:64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe. For Yeshua (Jesus) had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray Him.

Only G-d knows our hidden thoughts!

John 6:65 He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has enabled him."

The Father must draw us. It does sound kosher, doesnt it?

John 6:66 From this time many of His disciples turned back and no longer followed Him.

Some did not understand the spiritual implications.

John 6:67-68 Then said Yeshua (Jesus) to the twelve, Will you also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, L-rd, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

You have revelation of eternal life. He is the word. He is life to us.

John 6:69-70 And we believe and are sure that you are that Messiah (Christ), the Son of the living G-d. Yeshua (Jesus) answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

He chooses them.

One he calls him a false accuser. (Satan) Satan is the accuser of the brethren. Satan would use Judas of Iscariot. Yeshua knew Judas intended to betray Him. He knew his heart in advance.
