John Chapter 5 (Continued)

John 5:20-22 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that Himself does: and He will show Him greater works than these that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom He will. For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment to the Son:

Yeshua will one day judge. He did not come to judge but did He make judgments? He most certainly did. And His judgments where true. If one rejects Him that is that ones choice, yet one that rejects Him will one day receive judgment from Him.

John 5:23-25 That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father, which has sent him. Verily, verily, I say to you, He that hears my word, and believes on Him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life. Verily, verily, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of G-d: and they that hear shall live.

Resurrection of good and evil!!! (Extension of spiritual life with G-d or separation from Him.)

John 5:26-27 For as the Father has life in himself; so has He given to the Son to have life in Himself; And has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man.

John 5:28-29 "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

Mal 4:1-3 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, says the L-RD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, says the L-RD of hosts.

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which has sent Me.

John 5:31-32 If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. There is another that bears witness of Me; and I know that the witness which he witnesses of Me is true.

Testimony of witnesses (Deut. 17:6; 19:15)

  1. John the Immerser,
  2. His works bore witness
  3. The Father (Abba)
  4. The Scriptures testify of me. All point to Him from the proclaiming of the prophets to the types. He is proclaimed in all things.

John 5:33-40 You sent to John, and he bare witness to the truth. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that you might be saved. He was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father has given Me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me. And the Father himself, which has sent Me, has borne witness of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His shape. And you have not His word abiding in you: for whom He has sent, him you believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they that testify of me. And you will not come to me, that you might have life.

Yeshua is telling them very plainly that if they were really studying the scriptures they would have recognized Him.

John 5:41-47 I receive not honor from men. But I know you, that you have not the love of G-d in you. I am come in my Father's name, and you receive Me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive. How can you believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from G-d only? Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust. For had you believed Moses, you would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me. But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe My words?

It was unnecessary for Him to accuse the people. Moshe, whom they claimed to follow, would condemn them because they had broken the covenant he instituted and missed the person he wrote about. The phrase in whom you have set your hope implies that they thought salvation would come by their good deeds mitzvah in keeping the law.

If they had really believed Moshe, they would believe Yeshua, because Moshe wrote about Him. Yeshua did not refer to any specific passage such as (Gen 3:15 ; 22:18; 49:10; Num 24:17; Deut 18:15) or any specific types (such as the Passover, the manna, the rock, the offerings, or the high priesthood). He simply assumed the Tanakh clearly pointed to Him. Since Moshes revelation was rejected (Luke 16:19-31) Yeshuas words were rejected also.

Do you really believe the words of Moshe?

The Galileans needed to see a sign. (Not that G-d is still not in the miracle business.)

I guess we have two extremes here. Some did not care about signs and wanted to find fault in the Son and some who only cared about more signs than the Son Himself.
