John 20:18-20 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the L-rd, and that He had spoken these things to her. Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Yeshua (Jesus) and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be to you. And when He had so said, He showed to them His hands and His side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the L-rd.
Notice, Yeshua did not knock on the door. The door was locked and Yeshua appeared to them. He was in His glorified body and was no longer limited by time and space.
Imagine how overjoyed they must have been at the sight of the risen Messiah!
They were in hiding, not knowing if the Jewish leaders were going to have them rounded up to meet the same fate as Yeshua. After they see for themselves that Yeshua had risen from the dead, their fears leave them and they are able to boldly preach and teach the people the good news. Each of them did face persecution in their ministry most were put to death. These men become heroes for the faith in their Messiah. The fact that these men where shown to have weakness accounts for the fact that they where like us human in every respect. This is how the Bible has always shown different people even in the Torah. If I were to write a fairy tale I would not have shown individuals as almost perfect people. Had the resurrection story been false they would have no reason to die for a lie.
John 20:21-23 Then said Yeshua (Jesus) to them again, Peace be to you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, you receive Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit): Whosever sins you remit, they are remitted to them; and whosever sins you retain, they are retained.
The unbeliever will remain in their sin without the peace that Yeshua has to offer. We can either be like the guy that was to the left on the execution stake or others who mocked Yeshua and remain in their wickedness. If Yeshua had come to the Gentiles first Im sure many of them also would have done the same kind of thing. We still have many today still mock His name and ours.
Mark 15:28-32 And the scripture was fulfilled, which said, And He was numbered with the transgressors. And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, you that destroyed the temple, and built it in three days, Save yourself, and come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; Himself He cannot save. Let Messiah (Christ) the King of Israel descend now from the execution stake (cross), that we may see and believe.
And they that were crucified with Him reviled Him.
John 20:24 But Thomas (Toma), one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Yeshua (Jesus) came.
Sometimes this trust comes slow and others want proof.
John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the L-rd. But he said to them, Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe.
This is how we get the expression doubting Thomas. Dont be a doubting Thomas any more and just say He isnt. Pray and ask G-d to reveal to you the truth about Yeshua.
John 20:26 And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Yeshua (Jesus), the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace to you.
John 20:27 Then said He to Thomas, reach here your finger, and behold My hands; and reach here your hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not faithless (not trusting), but believing.
John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, My L-rd and My G-d.
G-d requires knowledge but also trust.
John 20:29 Yeshua (Jesus) said to him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Thomas believed because he saw Yeshua with his own eyes. Yeshua said that we are blessed because we believe and have not see Him with our physical eyes only our spiritual eyes.
John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Yeshua (Jesus) in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that (Yeshua HaMashiach) Jesus is the Christ, the Son of G-d; and that believing you might have life through His name.
