John 18:25 As Simon Peter stood warming himself, he was asked, "You are not one of his disciples, are you?" He denied it, saying, "I am not."
This is Peter’s second denial.
John 18:26-27 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, said, Didn’t I see you in the garden with Him? Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crowed.
Peter’s third denial. What Yeshua said was fulfilled. (John 13:38)
John 18:28 Then led they Yeshua (Jesus) from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat Pesach (the Passover).
Yeshua was now taken before Pilate.
“Lest they should be defiled” Jewish ORAL law gives evidence that a Jewish person who entered the dwelling place of Gentiles became ceremonially unclean. They waited outside that they would not be defiled. Never mind the fact that they were accusing someone who was innocent.
John 18:29 Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?"
Pilate asks a very reasonable question “What are the charges?”
John 18:30 they answered and said to him, If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.
Talk about a vague answer.
John 18:31 Pilate therefore said to them, "Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law." The Jews said to him, "We are not permitted to put anyone to death,"
Pilate wants them to deal with Yeshua according to Jewish law.
The Jewish people remind Pilate that they are not permitted to put anyone to death. This right was taken away from them by Rome.
John 18:32 That the saying of Yeshua (Jesus) might be fulfilled, which He spoke, signifying what death He should die.
Yeshua said that He would die by being “lifted up”. (See John 3:14, 8:28, 12:32,33) Stoning was the method of death used by the Jewish people. Crucifixion was the Roman method of death. Psalm 22 describes His death probably 1,000 years before it took place.
John 18:33-34 Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Yeshua (Jesus), and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" Yeshua (Jesus) answered, "Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?"
Pilate asked Yeshua if He was the King of the Jews. Yeshua reminds him of the need for witnesses by asking Pilate if he heard Him make that claim Himself.
John 18:35-36 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?" Yeshua (Jesus) answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."
Pilate says “Hey I’m not Jewish…Your people are accusing you not me. Yeshua tells him that His kingdom is not of this world.
This is where many get hung up. They assume that the Messiah will set up His throne in Jerusalem and usher in world peace. Since Yeshua didn’t do this, He must not be the Messiah. Well, the Tanakh predicts two comings of the Messiah. The first coming was to atone for our sins. The second will be to set up His kingdom.
Why did Yeshua wait to return and have a second coming?
It was said before that the world rejected Him and was not ready for Him.
The Messiah did not fulfill certain things in the Tanakh because He wanted to give man a part in the completion of the kingdom above. He wanted us to tell others about Yeshua before He brings judgment.
If we think about what scripture said about a prophet like Moshe. (See Deut 18:18)
Moshe left Egypt for a time and came back, which brought judgment upon Egypt.
Yeshua left the world and will bring back judgment upon the world.
Moshe was brought before Pharaoh’s court. Yeshua was brought before the Roman court.
John 18:37-38 Pilate therefore said to him, Are you a king then? Yeshua (Jesus) answered; You say that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears My voice. Pilate said to Him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I find in Him no fault at all.
Moshe left because of a death that brought to light his sin nature. This brought the wrath of Pharaoh on him.
Yeshua left because His death that brings to light His sinless nature. His death brought the wrath of the Father on Him.
“To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world” There you have it. Yeshua was born to die. This is the reason that He came into the world: To atone for our sins.
Down through the ages the Jewish people have been blamed by so called “Christians” of killing Yeshua. “Christ Killers” they say. Any real follower of Yeshua would understand that neither the Jewish people nor the Roman soldiers killed Yeshua. HE WAS BORN TO DIE. HE WAS OUR PESACH (Passover) LAMB! Have you ever seen a shepherd kill one of his lambs? He binds its front legs and it kneels on it’s knees as if in prayer. The lamb just humbly submits with a little sad face… without struggle… as if to say… take me. This to a shepherd’s family this means a nice meal for a hungry family who are physically famished. The allegory means much more to us.
He did not die on Pesach by a mere coincidence. It was a part of G-d’s plan of sin and redemption from spiritual darkness. The Jewish people and Roman people involved were used by G-d to carry out His plan. Yeshua laid down His life willingly because of the great love He has for us. Forever it will remind us of the cost of sin and the ugliness.
Pilate said “I do not find one crime in him!” The meaning of Tzaddi - righteous.
John 18:39 But you have a custom, that I should release to you one at Pesach (the Passover): will you therefore that I release to you the King of the Jews?
He died in the place of Barabbas.(Bar-Abba) Symbolic to us is that He died in our place so we could live on spiritually with the Father. (Abba) If we reject Him the Father will reject us.
I had to find the verse and Scripture says if I tell about Yeshua and if it is opposed and Yeshua is blasphemed your blood is upon your own head and I am clean. (Acts 18:6;Josh. 2:19;Ezek. 18:13;33:4)
Proverbs 15:33 The fear of YHVH is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor (glory) is humility. In His life and ours.
If one is honestly searching, sincerely ask the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to reveal to you if Yeshua is the Messiah.
