B'resheet 35:11-12 G-d also said to him, "I am El Shaddai (G-d Almighty) Be fruitful and multiply; A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, And kings shall come forth from you. "And the land which I gave to Avraham and Yitz'chak, I will give it to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you."
Not only kings but Yeshua the KING OF KINGS
Revelation 19:13-16 And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of G-d. And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty G-d. And He has on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND L-RD OF LORDS.
B'resheet 35:13 Then G-d went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.
He was there in visible form.
B'resheet 35:14-15 And Ya'akov set up a pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a libation on it; he also poured oil on it. So Ya'akov named the place where G-d had spoken with him, Bethel.
This is the first drink offering.
B'resheet 35:16-18 Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to Efrat (Ephrath), Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor. And it came about when she was in severe labor that the midwife said to her, "Do not fear, for now you have another son." And it came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni;(son of sorrow) but his father called him Benjamin.(son of my right hand)
Efrat (Ephrath) - This is the ancient name for Bethlehem.
Both names given to this son are an illustration of the character of the coming Messiah.
Ben-oni ;(son of sorrow)
Isaiah 53:1-4 Who has believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the L-RD(YHWH) revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he had no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of G-d, and afflicted.
Benjamin.(son of my right hand)
Tehillim (Psalms) 118:15-23 The right hand of the L-RD does valiantly. The right hand of the L-RD is exalted; the right hand of the L-RD does valiantly. I shall not die, but live, and tell of the works of the L-RD. The L-RD has disciplined me severely, but He has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the L-RD. This is the gate of the L-RD; the righteous will enter through it. I shall give thanks to you, for You have answered me; And You have become my Yeshua (salvation). The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. This is the L-rd's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
And You have become my Yeshua (salvation) - The L-rd is the one being addressed in this Psalm. The L-rd is our salvation. Our Yeshua. :~)
Yeshua was born in Bethlehem too!
Back to Rachel:
B'resheet 35:19-20 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). And Ya'akov set up a pillar over her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.
"This day"- This is at the time Moshe wrote this. It is still there today too.
B'resheet 35:21-22a Then Israel journeyed on and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder. And it came about while Israel was dwelling in that land, that Reu'ven went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heard of it.
Because of this sin Reu'ven would not retain his rights as the first-born son.
B'resheet 49:3-4 "Reu'ven, you are my first-born; My might and the beginning of my strength, Preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. "Uncontrolled as water, you shall not have preeminence, because you went up to your father's bed; Then you defiled it-- he went up to my couch.
This behavior was strictly forbidden in the Bible.
Vayikra (Leviticus) 18:8 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it is your father's nakedness.
(See also Deut. 22:30; 1 Cor. 5:1)
B'resheet 35:22b-27Now there were twelve sons of Ya'akov-
the sons of Leah: Reu'ven (Reuben), Ya'akov's first-born, then Shim'on (Simeon) and Levi and Y'hudah (Judah) and Yissakhar (Issachar) and Z'vulun (Zebulun);
the sons of Rachel: Yosef and Binyamin (Benjamin);
and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid: Dan and Naftaili (Naphtali);
and the sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid: Gad and Asher.
These are the sons of Ya'akov who were born to him in Paddan-aram. And Ya'akov came to his father Yitz'chak at Mamre of Kiryat-Arba (that is, Hevron), where Avraham and Yitz'chak had sojourned.
Finally after all those years Ya'akov returns to his father's house.
B'resheet 35:28-29 Now the days of Yitz'chak were one hundred and eighty years. And Yitz'chak breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, an old man of ripe age; and his sons Esav and Ya'akov buried him.
Yitz'chak was 60 years old when Esav and Ya'akov were born. This would make Esav and Ya'akov 120 years old when their father died. We estimated that they were 97 years old when they reconciled in chapter 32. It looks like another 23 years have passed.
HaShem's blessings are true and can be believed. Yitz'chak lived a long and happy life.
There are 3 deaths recorded in this chapter and one alluded to. The death of D'vorah,, Rivkah's, Rachel , and Yitz'chak
