B'resheet (Genesis) Chapter 34 (Continued)

B'resheet 34:25-31 Now it came about on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of Ya'akov's sons, Shim'on and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword and came upon the city unawares, and killed every male. And they killed Hamor and his son Sh'khem with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Sh'khem's house, and went forth. Ya'akov's sons came upon the slain and looted the city, because they had defiled their sister. They took their flocks and their herds and their donkeys, and that which was in the city and that which was in the field; and they captured and looted all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives, even all that was in the houses. Then Ya'akov said to Shim'on and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me, by making me odious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and my men being few in number, they will gather together against me and attack me and I shall be destroyed, I and my household." But they said, "Should he treat our sister as a harlot?"

This was understandable because of what happened to Dinah. They were defending their family's honor. We too deserve death because of our sins because G-d is just and has to punish sin. However, they went overboard. The young man deserved to be punished, not the entire city.

Isaiah 64:6-7 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. And there is no one who calls on Thy name,

Romans 3:9-18 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Gentiles are all under sin; as it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for G-d; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one. " And the path of peace have they not known. " "There is no fear of G-d before their eyes."

IN contrast, Instead of death, He offers us eternal life as a free gift if only we trust His Word. The Father killed His Own Son to preserve His justice and then raised Him up again.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of G-d is eternal life in Yeshua HaMashiach our L-rd.

1 Corinthians 15:20-28 But now Messiah has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Messiah all shall be made alive. But each in his own order: Messiah the first fruits, after that those who are Messiah's at His coming, then comes the end, when He delivers up the kingdom to the G-d and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. For He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. And when all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, that G-d may be all in all.

(See also Gen. 5 where it is written Adams offspring are made in "Adam's image" and not G-d's image because all offspring become spiritually dead because of Adam's sin.)

In contrast, He does not go back on His word and He is not trying to be deceitful. In contrast to all He is the only one who has done no wrong and gave himself up for our sake.

Luke 23:39-43 And one of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Messiah? Save Yourself and us!" But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear G-d, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? "And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." And he was saying, "Yeshua, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.

2 Corinthians 5:20-6:1 Therefore, we are emissaries for Messiah, as though G-d were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Messiah, be reconciled to G-d. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of G-d in Him.

We do not play the part of harlots but become the righteousness of G-d in Him.
