B'resheet (Genesis) Chapter 19 (Continued)

B'resheet 19:14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, "Get up, get out of this place; for the L-RD will destroy this city!" But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.

Who had married - Some translations indicate that they were the men engaged to his single daughters. Others indicate that they were married to other daughters.

They did not believe Lot and thought he was joking. They would suffer for it. Same thing applies in the future coming judgment.

Luke 17:28-37"It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. "It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed. "On that day, let not the one who is on the housetop and whose goods are in the house go down to take them away; and likewise let not the one who is in the field turn back. "Remember Lot's wife. "Whoever seeks to keep his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life shall preserve it. "I tell you, on that night there will be two men in one bed; one will be taken, and the other will be left. "There will be two women grinding at the same place; one will be taken, and the other will be left. ["Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left."] And answering they said to Him, "Where, Lord?" And He said to them, "Where the body is, there also will the vultures are gathered."

Some claim the wicked are taken to judgment. I don't see that at all. Here we see "AS USUAL" the righteous where taken out first; and then judgment was executed on the disobedient. This is symbolic of the rapture. The rapture is also a sign that His coming is near.

B'resheet 19:15-16 And when morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Up, take your wife and your two daughters, who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city." But he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of the L-RD (YHVH) came to him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.

He hesitated - It would have been hard for Lot to leave his loved ones behind to face the wrath of G-d. Also he was only taking the clothes on his back. He has to leave everyone and everything behind.

B'resheet 19:17-18 And it came about when they had brought them outside, that one said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, lest you be swept away." But Lot said to them, "Oh no, my lords!

They were to flee to the mountains to the east of the Dead Sea area. This is the same area that the Jewish people will flee to during the tribulation period when the anti-messiah enters the temple and claims to be G-d.

Matthew 24:15-23 "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; let him who is on the housetop not go down to get the things out that are in his house; and let him who is in the field not turn back to get his cloak. "But woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babes in those days! "But pray that your flight may not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath; for then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall. "And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.

B'resheet 19:19-20 "Now behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your loving kindness, which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest the disaster overtake me and I die; now behold, this town is near enough to flee to, and it is small. Please, let me escape there (is it not small?) that my life may be saved. "

ZO'AR (zo'er; 'littleness, smallness"). This town was at the south end of the dead sea.

B'resheet 19:21-22 And he said to him, "Behold, I grant you this request also, not to overthrow the town of which you have spoken. Hurry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the town was called Zoar. (Tsoar)

Again we see that the L-rd out of His loving kindness takes out the righteous before He executes judgment on the wicked. This will be the same in the future. We will be taken out of the way. There will still be believers here "in name only" but do not really know Him at all. This town is symbolic of the New Jerusalem to which we will flee to before judgment comes on Israel (last seven weeks in Daniel) and the world.

B'resheet 19:23-25 The sun had risen over the earth when Lot came to Zoar. Then the L-RD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the L-RD out of heaven, and He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But his wife, from behind him, looked back; and she became a pillar of salt.

She was rebellious against Adonai and suffered the consequences. This gives a picture of those in the future who are also rebellious against Yeshua.

This future event is recorded in Zechariah.

Zechariah 14:12 Now this will be the plague with which the L-RD will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth.

B'resheet 19:27-29 Now Abraham arose early in the morning and went to the place where he had stood before the L-RD; and he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the valley, and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land ascended like the smoke of a furnace. Thus it came about, when G-d destroyed the cities of the valley, that G-d remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.

First thing in the morning Abraham checked to see if G-d had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. He must have spent a sleepless night worrying about Lot.

B'resheet 19:30 And Lot went up from Zoar, and stayed in the mountains, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to stay in Zoar; and he stayed in a cave, he and his two daughters.

He didn't last long is Zoar. Perhaps that town was also wicked and he may have thought G-d would judge them too.

B'resheet 19:31-38 Then the first-born said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father." So they made their father drink wine that night, and the first-born went in and lay with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. And it came about on the morrow, that the first-born said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father." So they made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. And the first-born bore a son, and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. And as for the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.

The Moabites and the Ammonites are now modern day Jordan. They have been enemies of Israel from ancient times.

Here is another example of forcing your own will above HaShem's. If G-d wanted them to have children He certainly could have provided them with a future husband. It also make's me think of those who try to disqualify Yeshua as our future Messiah because He did not start His physical kingdom on earth right away. The millennial kingdom of Yeshua will start and happen at the Father's timing and not before. The kingdom that the Messiah did start right away was a spiritual kingdom with spiritual children and is hidden from many.

John 18:36 Yeshua answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm."

Luke 17:20-27 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of G-d was coming, He answered them and said, "The kingdom of G-d is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say,' Look, here it is!' or,' There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of G-d is in your midst. " And He said to the disciples, "The days shall come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. "And they will say to you, 'Look there! Look here!' Do not go away, and do not run after them. "For just as the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. "But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. "And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it shall be also in the days of the Son of Man: they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
