B'resheet 12:10-13 Now there was a famine in the land; so Avram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. And it came about when he came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, "See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman; and it will come about when the Egyptians see you, that they will say,' This is his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account of you."
This is not one of Avrams greater moments. He tells Sarai what you would call a half-truth, which caused considerable problems for the nation of Egypt later on. Sarah was Avram's half-sister. We have all failed at one time or another in contrast to Yeshua who never failed us or never will. Everyone in our lives will fail us one time or another but we can always, always trust in Yeshua never to fail us.
B'resheet 20:12 Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife;
Sarai was about 65 years old. She was still young and beautiful. She died when she was 127, so at this time her life was half over.
B'resheet 12:14-16 And it came about when Avram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. And Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. Therefore he treated Avram well for her sake; and gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.
So Sarai is in Pharaoh's harem! Avram is compensated for his loss of "Sister".
B'resheet 12:17-20 But the L-RD struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Avram's wife. Then Pharaoh called Avram and said, "What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? "Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go." And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him. NAS
HaShem still blessed Avram anyway. Praise Adonai for His mercy when we do wrong. The Pharaoh became cursed because of the promise of Adonai. Those that bless you, I will bless and those that curse you I will curse. This promise is eternal those that try to take away land G-d has promised Israel will be cursed...those that bless Israel will be blessed.
This country is no exception. One reason it has remained a great country is how we have treated Israel. Once we no longer start to bless Israel this country will see the consequences. Adonai did not say they had to share the land with the Palestinians. The Arabs already have possession of much of the Middle East.
Israel give up some of their "Divine right" to their land for peace sake as Avram denied his "Divine right" to Sarah but that does not mean the G-d of Israel will stand for it. His name is at stake....His Word is at stake.
When will man learn not to go against Israel and the G-d of Israel?
Also comforting is the fact that Messiah Yeshua will never fail to claim his "Divine right" for us.
