Sh'mot (Exodus) Chapter 8 (Continued)

Sh'mot 8:16-19 Then the L-RD said to Moshe, "Say to Aharon, 'Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may become gnats through all the land of Egypt.'" And they did so; and Aharon stretched out his hand with his staff, and struck the dust of the earth, and there were gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats through all the land of Egypt. And the magicians tried with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not; so there were gnats on man and beast. Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, "This is the finger of G-d." But Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the L-RD had said.

The third plague was gnats (some translations say lice) and was directed against Geb the god of earth or vegetation.

The finger of G-d. - When the magicians could not duplicate the plague they realized that the power that Moshe possessed came from G-d Himself.

Sh'mot 8:20-24 Now the L-RD said to Moshe, "Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, as he comes out to the water, and say to him, 'Thus says the L-RD," Let My people go, that they may serve Me. For if you will not let My people go, look, I will send swarms of insects on you and on your servants and on your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of insects, and also the ground on which they dwell. But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are living, so that no swarms of insects will be there, in order that you may know that I, the L-RD, am in the midst of the land. And I will put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall occur."' " Then the L-RD did so. And there came great swarms of insects into the house of Pharaoh and the houses of his servants and the land was laid waste because of the swarms of insects in all the land of Egypt.

Swarms of insects - or flies.

The fourth plague was flies - This was an attack on Khepfi the god of the insects.

Each one of these plagues would drive anyone crazy. One after another must have really driven the entire nation insane. It will be the same thing during the "Time of Yaakov's Trouble" also known as the "Tribulation Period".

Revelation 16:8-11 And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of G-d who has the power over these plagues; and they did not repent, so as to give Him glory. And the fifth angel poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, and they blasphemed the G-d of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.

Sh'mot 8:25-31 And Pharaoh called for Moshe and Aharon and said, "Go, sacrifice to your G-d within the land." But Moshe said, "It is not right to do so, for we shall sacrifice to the L-RD our G-d what is an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice what is an abomination to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not then stone us? "We must go a three days' journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the L-RD our G-d as He commands us." And Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the L-RD your G-d in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Make supplication for me." Then Moshe said, "look, I am going out from you, and I shall make supplication to the L-RD that the swarms of insects may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow; only do not let Pharaoh deal deceitfully again in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the L-RD." So Moshe went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the L-RD. And the L-RD did as Moshe asked, and removed the swarms of insects from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people; not one remained. But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go.

It is sad to think that what HaShem considered a blessing is considered an abomination to some. It is also sad today that some reject the offering of the Son that He was willing to give to take away our sin and try to say this is nothing but an abomination or a human sacrifice. This person was more than human and was doing what the Father asked out of necessity and is a blessing to all whom believe. Don't harden your heart like the Egyptians to the truth.

John 8:31-32 Yeshua (Jesus) therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

The truth will set you free from sin that keeps you out of the other world.

John 14:6 Yeshua (Jesus) said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.

John 3:16-21 For G-d so loved the world, that He gave His "ONLY" begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. "For G-d did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of G-d. "And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. "For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. "But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in G-d." NAS
