Sh'mot 34:18-24 "You shall observe the Feast of matzah (Unleavened Bread). For seven days you are to eat matzah (unleavened bread), as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in the month of Aviv you came out of Egypt. The first offspring from every womb belongs to Me, and all your male livestock, the first offspring from cattle and sheep. And you shall redeem with a lamb the first offspring from a donkey; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. You shall redeem all the first-born of your sons. And none shall appear before Me empty-handed. "You shall work six days, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during plowing time and harvest you shall rest. And you shall celebrate the Feast of Shavu'ot (Weeks), that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord G-D, the G-d of Israel. For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders, and no man shall covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the L-RD your G-d.
During the Millennial reign of Yeshua, the nations will come to Israel once a year and appear before Yeshua who will be ruler in Yerushalayim.
Z'kharyah (Zechariah) 14:16-21 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Yerushalayim will go up from year to year to worship the King, the L-RD of hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths. And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Yerushalayim to worship the King, the L-RD of hosts, there will be no rain on them. And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the L-RD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Sukkot (Booths). This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Sukkot (Booths). In that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, "HOLY TO THE L-RD." And the cooking pots in the Lord's house will be like the bowls before the altar. And every cooking pot in Yerushalayim and in Y'hudah will be holy to the L-RD of hosts; and all who sacrifice will come and take of them and boil in them. And there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the L-RD of hosts in that day.
Sh'mot 34:25-28 "You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, nor is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Pesach (Passover) to be left over until morning. You shall bring the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the L-RD your G-d. You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk." Then the L-RD said to Moshe, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." So he was there with the L-RD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Words (Commandments).
Forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water - Here is another thing that Moshe did that points us to the Messiah. Yeshua also spent forty days and nights in the wilderness alone with the Father and did not eat or drink. (Mattityahu (Matthew) chapter 4))
You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk. - We discussed this in chapter 23 but it does not hurt to review. Mother's milk was the source of life for the young goat, killing it and cooking it in its mother's milk is barbaric. However, we also need to look at the culture of the day to understand this verse in its proper context.
Archeological evidence tells us that the Canaanites believed that milk was the seed of life and they would sprinkle the ground with it. If a young goat was boiled in milk the Canaanites believed that its vitality was doubled. They believed that when this milk was sprinkled on the ground one could even be more certain of its positive influence on the fertility of fields and plants.
G-d was instructing them that they were not to use pagan rituals to make their crops grow. We are to trust in G-d to supply all of our needs not a charm, potion, etc.
Following the commandments could bring a longer life, especially the one about honoring your father and your mother. The Levitical priesthood performed a service that shall continue in the future. We honor the Father above by believing in the good news about the Son. He brings eternal life. The Holy Father brings mercy on top of mercy through His Son regardless of the nation of Israel's obstinance. A covenant placed on the heart.
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 33:14-18 Look, days are coming,' declares the L-RD,' when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Y'hudah. 'In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. In those days Y'hudah shall be saved, and Yerushalayim shall dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she shall be called: the L-RD is "OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS".' "says the L-RD, 'David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to prepare sacrifices continually.' "
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:31-34 Look, days are coming," declares the L-RD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Y'hudah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them, "declares the L-RD. "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the L-RD, "I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their G-d, and they shall be My people. "And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the L-RD,' for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the L-RD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."
Sh'mot 34:29-35 And it came about when Moshe was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moshe' hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moshe did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him. So when Aharon and all the sons of Israel saw Moshe, look, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. Then Moshe called to them, and Aharon and all the rulers in the congregation returned to him; and Moshe spoke to them. And afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he commanded them to do everything that the L-RD had spoken to him on Mount Sinai. When Moshe had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. But whenever Moshe went in before the L-RD to speak with Him, he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded, the sons of Israel would see the face of Moshe, that the skin of Moshe' face shone. So Moshe would replace the veil over his face until he went in to speak with Him. NAS
The glory of the L-rd shown on the face of Moshe and it was wonderful. If not for the son, our sin eventually would have brought eternal death. If you remain blinded and do not know whom it is pointing your sin will remain. This will separate you from being reconciled with the Father for eternity.
2 Corinthians 3:7-18 Yet the tablets that led to death began with such glory that people could not bear to look at Moshe' face. For as he gave them God's tablets to obey, his face shone out with the very glory of G-d-though the brightness was already fading away. Shall we not expect far greater glory in these days when Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) is giving life? ...If the plan that leads to doom was glorious, much more glorious is the plan that makes men right with G-d. In fact, that first glory as it shone from Moshes' face is worth nothing at all in comparison with the overwhelming glory of the new agreement. So if the old system that is fading was full of heavenly glory, the glory of G-d's new plan for our salvation is certainly far greater, for it is eternal. Since we know that this new glory will never go away, we can preach with great boldness, and not as Moshe did, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelis could not see the glory fade away. Not only Moshe' face was veiled, but his people's minds and understanding were veiled and blinded too. Even now when the Scripture is read it seems as though a thick veil covers Jewish hearts and minds, because they cannot see and understand the real meaning of the Scriptures. For this veil of misunderstanding can be removed only by believing in Messiah. Yes, even today when they read Moshe' writings their hearts are blind and they think that obeying the Ten Commandments is the way to be saved. (Many Gentiles as well believe the same.) But whenever anyone turns to the L-rd from his sins, then the veil is taken away. The L-rd is the Spirit who gives them life, and where he is there is freedom [from trying to be saved by keeping the laws of God]. But we Believers have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the L-rd. And as the Spirit of the L-rd works within us, we become more and more like him.
Our ultimate goal is to be more and more like our Messiah Yeshua. Don't try to get eternal salvation by going back to believing in your own righteousness. Does this mean we do not follow the way of righteousness anymore? The nation will be in unbelief until they can follow the anti-Messiah. The true Messiah will still come to save them despite this indiscretion. When we are under Messiah and follow Him we are still following righteousness.
Hebrews 10:19-23 Since therefore, brothers, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Yeshua, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of G-d, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
Hebrews 10:28-30 For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries.
A man who has violated the law of Moshe dies without mercy at the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by the man who has spurned the Son of G-d, and profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of mercy?
Faith is trusting obedience. Faith without works is dead.
Ya'akov (James) 2:20-26 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?
Was not Avraham our father justified by works, when he offered up Yitz'chak (Isaac) his son on the altar?
You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And Avraham believed G-d, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," and he was called the friend of G-d. You see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not Rachav the harlot also justified by works, when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
Only a true faith will have works and only this kind of faith justifies us. Yeshua too then calls us friend.
Yochanan (John) 15:15-16 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
