Sh'mot 32:17-19 Now when Y'hoshua heard the sound of the people as they shouted, he said to Moshe, "There is a sound of war in the camp." But he said, "It is not the sound of the cry of triumph, Nor is it the sound of the cry of defeat; But the sound of singing I hear." And it came about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses' anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain.
Here we see the Word of HaShem being crushed by the transgression of the people. This is another "type" of Yeshua, who is the Word.
Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 53:5 He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well being fell upon Him.
Moshe had just finished being an advocate for his people and what does he do next? He loses his temper and crushes the tablets. If He had given the tablets to them now they would all have suffered death for their sins. What a prophetic picture we have here. The Messiah suffered so that we would not have to feel the consequences of the tablets because of our sin. Moshe then makes them drink the golden calf. This too is a picture of the Messiah at a future time when he returns after being our advocate and make all nations drink the wine of the wrath of G-d in Revelation. See below.
Sh'mot 32:20 And he took the calf which they had made and burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the surface of the water, and made the sons of Israel drink it.
Revelation 14:8-11 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality." And another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or upon his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of G-d, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
Sh'mot 32:21-24 Then Moshe said to Aharon, "What did this people do to you, that you have brought such great sin upon them?" And Aharon said, "Do not let the anger of my lord burn; you know the people yourself, that they are prone to evil. For they said to me, 'Make a god for us who will go before us; for this Moshe, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' "And I said to them, 'Whoever has any gold, let them tear it off.' So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf."
Out came this calf -Aharon does not admit he crafted it himself. Instead he expects Moshe to believe that it created itself.
The crowd got tired of waiting for Moshe. Many grow tired of waiting for the Messiah and turn to other sins because they are tired of waiting. This is really sad because the true Messiah has come and gone and was ignored by most of the leaders of Israel. They instead continue to wait for a false Messiah.
Sh'mot 32:25-28 Now when Moshe saw that the people were out of control-- for Aharon had let them get out of control to be a derision among their enemies-- then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is for the L-RD, come to me!" And all the sons of Levi gathered together to him. And he said to them, "Thus says the L-RD, the G-d of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.'" So the sons of Levi did as Moshe instructed, and about three thousand men of the people fell that day.
Three thousand men of the people fell that day - 3,000 died when the law was given. 3,000 were saved when Ruach HaKodesh was given on the day of Shavu'ot (Pentecost).
Acts 2:41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
It is sad this had to happen after all the L-rd had done for them. Yet there are consequences for those that choose not to follow the L-rd. The consequences of the tablets are brought upon those who chose to be with the L-rd and come to Moshe. Those that were moved by the Spirit were free from judgment.
Galatians 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
He freely gives us mercy even when we do not deserve it. Sometimes there is a higher calling that takes precedence over another instruction that can lead to better things. The Spirit led Yeshua to die for the sins of the people. Little did many know that this was no ordinary man. Those that know the Father realize that Yeshua is the Son of G-d and that there is no other way to eternal redemption. They realize that it pleased the Father to bruise Yeshua because He came to carry our burdens. He came to suffer and to be one who understood our pains and hurts because He experienced them himself. Only then could He sit at the right hand of the Father and receive glory.
Wasn't Avraham avinu declared righteous because of his actions when he offered up his son Yitz'chak on the altar?
He must have believed that HaShem wanted Him to strike his son through the following of the Spirit. Is this not true?
He believed HaShem would raise Him from the dead. His faith worked with his actions; by his actions his faith was made complete; and the passage of the Tanakh was fulfilled which says. "Avraham had faith in G-d, and it was credited to his account as righteousness." He was even called G-d's friend.
Trust that G-d sent His Son to die for you knowing that He would raise Him again. If you don't, it will be a sad thing that will happen to you. After all that the Son has done for us. The consequences of the tablets will be brought upon you. You will die in you sins and will have no excuse because the Torah has revealed all your sin. Which one of us is perfect? Perfection will be the standard you have to pass and you will fall short for we are all sinners and born with a sin nature.
1 Timothy 1:5-11 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the Torah, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions. But we know that the Torah is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that Torah is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious good news of the blessed G-d, with which I have been entrusted.
Those that are the children of G-d by faith are no longer under the schoolmaster. We follow the spirit and are under Messiah.
Galatians 3:24-26 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Messiah, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For you are all the children of G-d by faith in Yeshua HaMashiach.
Those that have rejected Messiah will be cast out into eternal spiritual death. They will be judged by their actions and since they too have fallen short they will fall short of eternal life. Because of their sins they do not follow the spirit. The tablets will mean their eternal deaths. They were not on the L-rd's side because they did not follow Yeshua. They will receive judgment as rebellious, liars, and false witnesses.
Moshe himself said to listen to one that would come after him and would be like him. Listen to him. (Deut. 18:18)
Mattityahu (Matthew) 13:47-52"Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. "Have you understood all these things?" Yeshua asked. "Yes," they replied. He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the Torah who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old."
Sh'mot 32:29 Then Moshe said, "Dedicate yourselves today to the L-RD-- for every man has been against his son and against his brother-- in order that He may bestow a blessing upon you today."
Every man against his son and his brother -This is sad but true. It can also be said about the blessings that come from the Father through Yeshua.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 10:34-39 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. "For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. "He who has found his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake shall find it.
Sh'mot 32:30 And it came about on the next day that Moses said to the people, "You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the L-RD, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin."
Perhaps, I can make atonement for your sin. - What a picture of our Messiah! Moshe, the "type", is again pointing us to the real deal.
Sh'mot 32:31-32 Then Moshe returned to the L-RD, and said, "Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves. But now, if it is your will, forgive their sin-- and if not, please blot me out from your book which You have written!"
Again Moshe is advocating for them from the curse that their sin would bring through the tablets. Moshe is saying he would rather be dead too or taken out of the book of the living if He did not forgive them. Saul also stated a similar thing.
Romans 9:1-5 I tell the truth in Messiah, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in Ruach HaKodesh that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Messiah for my brothers, my countrymen according to the flesh, who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the Torah, the service of G-d, and the promises; of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Messiah came, who is over all, the eternally blessed G-d. Amen.
Saul would have rather be cursed instead of them.
Again, Moshe is a "type" pointing to the one who did become accursed for us.
Galatians 3:10-14 For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE TORAH TO PERFORM THEM." Now that no one is justified by the Law before G-d is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." How different from this way of faith is the way of law, which says that a man is saved by obeying every law of G-d, without one slip. Messiah redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us -- for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE" -- in order that in Yeshua HaMashiach the blessing of Avraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Now G-d can bless the Gentiles, too, with this same blessing he promised to Avraham; and all of us as believers can have the promised Ruach HaKodesh through this faith.
He became a curse for us because of our sin. We all fall short and therefore cannot receive eternal salvation through the Torah by being righteous. Today there is a new and living way. By trusting in Yeshua and what He did and then His righteousness is accounted to us.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 6:33 "But seek first "HIS" kingdom and "HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS"; and all these things shall be added to you. "
Sh'mot 32:33-35 And the L-RD said to Moshe, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. But go now, lead the people where I told you. Look, My angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin." Then the L-RD smote the people, because of what they did with the calf, which Aharon had made. NAS
My angel - Under the Torah there are consequences for wrong actions and also for wrong choices. Yeshua, also known as the Angel of the L-rd, would go before Moshe. Yeshua is the Messiah. He is much more than a future king of this world. He has much more to offer to those who choose to look beyond the system of old to a new and living way. When we turn from our sins and accept Yeshua's death as atonement for our sins we are then a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Wherefore if any man is in Messiah, (he is) a NEW CREATION: the old things are passed away; look, they are become new. But all things are of G-d, who reconciled us to himself through Messiah, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; to will, that G-d was in Messiah reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation. We are emissaries therefore on behalf of Messiah, as though G-d were entreating by us: we beg (you) on behalf of Messiah, be reconciled to G-d. Him who knew no sin he made (to be) sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of G-d in him.
Galatians 6:14-16 As for me, G-d forbid that I should boast about anything except the execution stake of our Lord Yeshua HaMashiach. Because of the execution stake, my interest in all the attractive things of the world was killed long ago, and the world's interest in me is also long dead. What counts is whether we really have been changed into a "NEW" creation. May G-d's mercy and peace be upon all of you who live by this principle and upon those everywhere who are really G-d's own.
