Sh'mot (Exodus) Chapter 19 (Continued)

Sh'mot 19:7-9 So Moshe came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the L-RD had commanded him. And all the people answered together and said, "All that the L-RD has spoken we will do!" And Moshe brought back the words of the people to the L-RD. And the L-RD said to Moshe, "Look, I shall come to you in a thick cloud, in order that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe in you forever." Then Moshe told the words of the people to the L-RD.

The people agree to keep their part of this covenant with the L-rd. What if the people had not agreed to keep the covenant? I'm not sure if there would have been hope for mankind. All should be thankful that the people did agree.

In order that the people may hear when I speak with you - As you now know the Father did the same kind of thing for the Son in the presence of Peter, James, and John in Matthew 17:1-8 when He was transfigured before them and they heard the Father speaking from heaven.

Sh'mot 19:10-15 The L-RD also said to Moshe, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the L-RD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. And you shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, 'Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 'No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.' When the ram's horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain. " So Moshe went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments. And he said to the people, "Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman."

Consecrate - to be set apart for service to G-d.

If one touched a woman at a certain part of her menstrual cycle that person too could become unclean. (See Lev 15:16-33)

Yeshua too after rising on the third day would not let a woman touch Him before He went into the presence of the Father otherwise He would be considered unclean.

John 20:17-18 Yeshua said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren, and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My G-d and your G-d.'" Miriam of Magdalene came, announcing to the disciples, "I have seen the L-rd," and that He had said these things to her.

Why did he have to go to the Father?

Hebrews 9:23-28 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Messiah did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of G-d for us; nor was it that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood not his own. Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Messiah also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

Sh'mot 19:16-19 So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud shofar (trumpet) sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moshe brought the people out of the camp to meet G-d, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the L-RD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. When the sound of the shofar (trumpet) grew louder and louder, Moshe spoke and G-d answered him with a voice.

G-d answered him with a voice - HaShem spoke audibly to Moshe.

Sh'mot 19:20-25 And the L-RD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the L-RD called Moshe to the top of the mountain, and Moshe went up. Then the L-RD spoke to Moshe, "Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to the L-RD to gaze, and many of them perish. And also let the priests who come near to the L-RD consecrate themselves, lest the L-RD break out against them." And Moshe said to the L-RD, "The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for Thou didst warn us, saying, 'Set bounds about the mountain and consecrate it.'" Then the L-RD said to him, "Go down and come up again, you and Aharon with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the L-RD, lest He break forth upon them." So Moshe went down to the people and told them.

The priests - These priests would have been the "first-born" priests. The Levitical priesthood was not established until a few months later. We will discuss the reason for this change when we reach that point in Sh'mot (Exodus).

Moshe was again the "type" pointing to the Real deal. He went up the mountain only to return to warn the people. Yeshua also returned after going to the Father. In contrast, however, He was not sent down to make sure there remained a boundary between us, (members of all nations), and HaShem. As a matter of fact, Ruach HaKodesh is given to us to live inside us. There is no longer anything that will separate us from HaShem -including the veil.

John 20:19-23 That evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors, in fear of the Jewish leaders, when suddenly Yeshua was standing there among them! After greeting them, He showed them His hands and side. And how wonderful was their joy as they saw their L-rd! He spoke to them again and said, "As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you." Then He breathed on them and told them, "Receive Ruach HaKodesh. If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven. If you refuse to forgive them, they are unforgiven."

Hebrews 10:19-23 And so, dear brothers, now we may walk right into the very Holy of Holies, where G-d is, because of the blood of Yeshua. This is the fresh, new, life-giving way that Messiah has opened up for us by tearing the curtain-his human body-to let us into the holy presence of G-d. And since this great High Priest of ours rules over G-d's household, let us go right in to G-d himself, with true hearts fully trusting him to receive us because we have been sprinkled with Messiah's blood to make us clean and because our bodies have been washed with pure water. Now we can look forward to the salvation G-d has PROMISED us. There is no longer any room for doubt, and we can tell others that salvation is ours, for there is no question that He will do what He says.
