Sh'mot (Exodus) Chapter 14 (Continued)

Sh'mot 14:13-16 But Moshe said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the L-RD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. The L-RD will fight for you while you keep silent." Then the L-RD said to Moshe, "Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.

Moshe says we will see the "salvation" of the L-rd. He is talking about the physical salvation of Israel from G-d who will save them. But on a higher level, we see something else here. Do you see the picture here of something that will also happen in their future? We see Israel hurling insults at Moshe before he stretches out his hand along the stake. What comes to our mind?

Remember Moshe is a "type" which points to the real deal, Yeshua HaMashiach.

It is another prophetic scene. While Yeshua stretched out on the execution stake insults where being hurled at him. The "unique" and "only" Son of G-d was performing an act that would be for the benefit and eternal salvation of all.

Matthew 27:39-44 And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of G-d, come down from the execution stake." In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him, and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the execution stake, and we shall believe in Him. "He trusts in G-d; let Him deliver Him now, if He takes pleasure in Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of G-d.'" And the robbers also who had been crucified with Him were casting the same insult at Him. NAS

If you trust, do not fear! Stand by, for here we see the "eternal" and "spiritual" salvation of the L-rd through Yeshua for those that believe. You can only then crossover to the other world "olam haba" after death.

For G-d so loved the world that He gave his "ONLY" Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

Sh'mot 14:17-20 And as for Me, look, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. Then the Egyptians will know that I am the L-RD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen." And the angel of G-d, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.

The angel of G-d (Elohyim)- was leading the Israelites. Notice that this "angel" is separate from "the pillar of cloud". We commented in the last lesson that "pillar of cloud" the Sh'khinah was (Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit)).

So who is the "Angel of G-d"? This is another name for "the Angel of the L-rd". Which is another name for Yeshua HaMashiach.

This passage shows us that the names are used interchangeably.

Shof'tim (Judges) 6:20-21 And the angel of G-d said to him, "Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth." And he did so. Then the angel of the L-RD put out the end of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of the L-RD vanished from his sight. (NAS)

(See also B'resheet (Genesis) 21:17; B'resheet (Genesis) 31:11; Shof'tim (Judges) 13:9)

Imagine that! Yeshua personally lead the Israelites out of Egypt and defended them against the Egyptians. In the future He will fight against Russia, Iran, Ethiopia, and Libya in the battle recorded in Ezekiel 38-39. Later he will defend them from attack at the Battle of Armageddon when all the nations go against them. (Revelation 19:11-21)

Is your heart hardened against those that trust in Yeshua?

No one can snatch us from the Father's hand. He is our protector.

John 10:28-30 I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. "I and the Father are ONE.

Back to Moshe:

Sh'mot 14:21-25 Then Moshe stretched out his hand over the sea; and the L-RD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided. And the sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. Then the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea. And it came about at the morning watch, that the L-RD looked down on the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud and brought the army of the Egyptians into a panic. And He caused their chariot wheels to break off, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from Israel, for the L-RD is fighting for them against the Egyptians."

In the future we see judgment from fire.

Revelation 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before G-d; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and sheol were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Back to Moshe

Sh'mot 14:26-31 Then the L-RD said to Moshe, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen." So Moshe stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the L-RD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh's entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained. But the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. Thus the L-RD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. And when Israel saw the great power which the L-RD had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the L-RD, and they believed in the L-RD and in His servant Moshe. NAS

Israel is saved from physical harm after fear of death and destruction. They rise again saved from harm. Israel again will face death and destruction in the future from Egypt and other kingdoms described in Daniel and Revelation. The Messiah Yeshua will come out to fight the nations to save Israel. Don't wait until after Jacob's trouble to believe in the L-rd and in His servant Yeshua HaMashiach.

Sadly, many hearts (except for a remnant) will be hardened until He returns and brings salvation to Israel.

Zechariah 12:8-10 that day the L-RD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like G-d, like the angel of the L-RD before them. "And it will come about in that day that I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. "And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of mercy and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a first-born.

Why?

Romans 11:11-24 I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. Now if their transgression be riches for the world and their failure be riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be! But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them. For if their rejection be the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? And if the first piece of dough be holy, the lump is also; and if the root be holy, the branches are too. But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; for if G-d did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you. Look then the kindness and severity of G-d; to those who fell, severity, but to you, G-d's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for G-d is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more shall these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
