Sh'mot 12:12-14 'For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments-- I am the L-RD. 'And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. 'Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the L-RD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.
The blood of the lamb was applied to the doorposts of their homes.
HaShem said - I will go - I see the blood - I will pass over you.
In order to have G-d overlook our sins we must apply the blood to the doorposts of our hearts. The blood of the Lamb of G-d, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, takes away our sins and we pass over from eternal death to eternal life.
Sh'mot 12:15-20 'Seven days you shall eat matzah (unleavened bread), but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything hametz (leavened) from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel. 'And on the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you. 'You shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance. 'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 'Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land. 'You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.' "
Why matzah (unleavened bread)?
This is bread that is without yeast. Yeast represents sin. Matzah points to Yeshua, our matzah (unleavened bread), who was without sin.
John 6:35-36 Yeshua said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
Sh'mot 12:21-22 Then Moshe called for all the elders of Israel, and said to them, "Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Pesach (Passover) lamb. And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.
Hyssop symbolizes faith in action.
This was also done to our Messiah. HaShem's wrath passes over us because of our Pesach (Passover) lamb was without sin or you could say spiritual blemish. He is and always will be perfection. He suffered for us while we were yet sinners and became sin for us so we could Pesach (Passover) into eternal life with the Father.
Sh'mot 12:23-30 For the L-RD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the L-RD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you. And you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever. And it will come about when you enter the land which the L-RD will give you, as He has promised, that you shall observe this rite. And it will come about when your children will say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?' that you shall say,' It is a Pesach (Passover) sacrifice to the L-RD who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.' "And the people bowed low and worshiped. Then the sons of Israel went and did so; just as the L-RD had commanded Moshe and Aharon, so they did. Now it came about at midnight that the L-RD struck all the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first-born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first-born of cattle. And Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead.
Again we see that the Torah helps illustrate future truth. The first-born son would have to die before our freedom was restored to us, in this case freedom from sin. We are dead to sin and alive to Messiah. We see this kind of fulfillment in the new blood covenant. If you believe in what He said, you are truly free indeed and you can enter His rest. We don't trust in our own works, but trust in Yeshua the first born dying in our place. That does not mean we do not continue to do good, for faith without works is dead. Our motivation now is to show our gratitude and to follow the self-sacrifice of our Messiah. These actions are not what give us a free "pass" to the other world. As I stated before, it was His righteousness, His life that He gave for us. Let's give Him the glory and honor and the praise.
The people would finally be free of their enslavement.
In the new blood covenant we are now freed from enslavement to our sin nature. How? Only through new covenant power can we hope to please HaShem.
Israel trusted that the lamb's blood would stop the wrath of HaShem.
The offering of the Son was sufficient to stop the wrath of Adonai.
Do you trust in this blood covenant?
Romans 3:1-18 Then what advantage has the Jewish person? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of G-d. What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of G-d, will it? May it never be! Rather, let G-d be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED." But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of G-d, what shall we say? The G-d who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I am speaking in human terms.) May it never be! For otherwise, how will G-d judge the world? But if through my lie the truth of G-d abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner? And why not say(as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), "Let us do evil that good may come"? Their condemnation is just. What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jewish person and Gentile are all under sin; as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR G-D; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE." "THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING," "THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS"; "WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS"; "THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD, DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS, AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN." "THERE IS NO FEAR OF G-D BEFORE THEIR EYES."
None of us were without some spiritual blemish except our Messiah. He is the unleavened bread. Yeast represents sin. We were born with a sin nature or a propensity to fail at one time or another. Our sin nature is passed to us from our human fathers. Yeshua had no human father. He was the begotten Son of the Father above.
Who was and is responsible for our freedom from our enslavement from sin?
The Pesach (Passover) Lamb who is without spiritual blemish - the only begotten Son of the Father. Praise His Name - Yeshua HaMashiach (Ps. 2)
Tehillim (Psalms) 2:7-12 "I will surely tell of the decree of the L-RD: He said to Me, 'You art My Son, Today I have begotten Thee. 'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron, Your will shatter them like earthenware.' " Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. Worship the L-RD with reverence, and rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
Acts 4:11-12 "He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the very corner stone. "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved." NAS
He surely does fulfill the Torah. Or should we say, "The Torah is certainly filled full with Him?
If we are sinners how are we free from sin?
If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
When it comes to our eternal salvation we are free from sin. Ha Shem looks at us through the blood of the Messiah and we are covered and looked on "Just -as if- we had not sinned". We are dead to sin when HaShem looks upon us. We are alive to Messiah.
What does this mean?
If we talk like the Messiah, act and walk like Messiah, we are alive to the Messiah. He will live in us and through us for His glory -not our own.
If a person does not walk this walk then we should question if the person truly is alive to the Messiah. We should know them by their fruit.
Galatians 5:22-26 But when Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) controls our lives He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws. Those who belong to Messiah have nailed their natural evil desires to His execution stake and crucified them there. If we are living now by Ruach HaKodesh's (the Holy Spirit's) power, let us follow Ruach HaKodesh's ( the Holy Spirit's) leading in every part of our lives. Then we won't need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings.
Sh'mot 12:31-39 Then he called for Moshe and Aharon at night and said, "Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, worship the L-RD, as you have said. Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also." And the Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, "We shall all be dead." So the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders. Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moshe, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and the L-RD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Thus they plundered the Egyptians. Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children. And a mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock. And they baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had not become leavened, since they were driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.
In contrast, according to the Word, we are not redeemed or given favor in the sight of others with perishable things but with the blood of the Lamb, our Messiah Yeshua.
1 Peter 1:13-21 Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the MERCY to be brought to you at the revelation of Yeshua HaMashiach. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay upon earth; knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Messiah. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in G-d, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in G-d.
Six hundred thousand men - This is not counting the women and children. This would probably put the number of people leaving town at about 2 Million. Talk about a traffic jam. This would be a logistical nightmare. We will see later that there was a very specific order that the families marched through the desert in. They were very organized. G-d is not the author of confusion.
A mixed multitude also went up with them - These are other people groups, Egyptians and others that desired to identify with the children of Israel and their G-d.
Sh'mot 12:40-42 Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. And it came about at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, that all the hosts of the L-RD went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be observed for the L-RD for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the L-RD, to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.
Four hundred and thirty years, to the very day.
This is a fulfillment of G-d prophecy to Avram. G-d used four hundred here as an approximation of the number of years for the captivity.
B'resheet (Genesis) 15:13-14 And G-d said to Avram, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years. But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve; and afterward they will come out with many possessions.
Sh'mot 12:43-51 And the L-RD said to Moshe and Aharon, "This is the ordinance of the Pesach (Passover): no foreigner is to eat of it; but every man's slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it. A sojourner or a hired servant shall not eat of it. It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it. All the congregation of Israel are to celebrate this. But if a stranger sojourns with you, and celebrates the Pesach (Passover) to the L-RD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it. The same law shall apply to the native as to the stranger who sojourns among you." Then all the sons of Israel did so; they did just as the L-RD had commanded Moshe and Aharon. And it came about on that same day that the L-RD brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.
In contrast, this new blood covenant is for the Jewish person and the Gentile. The circumcision is of the heart.
The "type" points to the circumcision of the heart (labed) (Jer. 31:31)
The lamb's bones where not to be broken. The bones of the Messiah where also not broken.
John 19:31-36 The Jewish leaders didn't want the victims hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath at that, for it was the Pesach (Passover)), so they asked Pilate to order the legs of the men broken to hasten death; then their bodies could be taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Yeshua (Jesus); but when they came to him, they saw that he was dead already, so they didn't break his. However, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water flowed out. I saw all this myself and have given an accurate report so that you also can believe. The soldiers did this in fulfillment of the Scripture that says, "Not one of his bones shall be broken,"
