THE ANGEL OF THE L-RD

Who is the Angel of the L-rd?

“The Angel of the L-rd” is in Hebrew “The Angel of YHVH” also known as “The Angel of Jehovah”

Let’s look at some Tanakh references.

In Genesis chapter 16, Hagar fled from Sarah and was found in the wilderness by the “Angel of the L-rd”

Genesis 16:10 And the angel of the L-RD said to her, I will multiply your seed exceedingly, that it will not be numbered for multitude.

Did you read that carefully? This angel did not say, “the L-rd will multiply your seed”, He said, “I will multiply your seed”…Hummm???

In Genesis chapter 22, Abraham obeyed the L-rd and took Isaac up to Mt. Moriah to offer him as a sacrifice.

Gen 22:11-12 But the angel of the L-RD called to him from heaven, and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." And He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the boy, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear G-d, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

This is getting more interesting all the time…. Here we see the “Angel of the L-rd” saying that you have not with held your sacrifice “from Me” not “from G-d”.

Ordinary angels are not to receive sacrifices, only G-d is worthy to receive sacrifices.

If you are still not certain whom “The angel of the L-rd” is the next passage of scripture spells it out for every one to see.

When Moshe encountered the burning bush in Exodus chapter 3, the “Angel of the L-rd” spoke to him from the bush.

Exodus 3:2 And the angel of the L-RD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.

Here it is… a minute ago we saw that the “Angel of the L-rd” was in the burning bush. …Now we see that G-d called to Moshe from the bush.

Exodus 3:4-7 “When the L-RD saw that he turned aside to look, G-d called to him from the midst of the bush, and said, "Moshe, Moshe!" And he said, "Here I am." Then He said, "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." He said also, "I am the G-d of your father, the G-d of Abraham, the G-d of Isaac, and the G-d of Jacob." Then Moshe hid his face, for he was afraid to look at G-d.”

Therefore, the “Angel of the L-rd” must be YHVH (G-d).

In Judges chapter 13, Samson’s, Shimshon, parents were visited by the “Angel of the L-rd”.

Judges 13:18 But the angel of the L-RD said to him, "Why do you ask my name? It is wonderful?"

In the Hebrew the word is: pele' (peh'-leh);

The same Hebrew word is used in:

In Isaiah 9 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; and He will be given the name Pele-Yo’etz El Gibbor Avi-‘Ad Sar-Shalom [Wonder of a Counselor, Mighty G-d, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace],

Isaiah tells us that a child will be born that will be called “Pele”, also “Mighty G-d”, and “Father of Eternity”. This is no ordinary child. How can a child be born that is G-d? Hmmm????

In referring to the Angel of the L-rd in:

Judges 13:22 So Manoah said to his wife, "We shall surely die, for we have seen G-d."

Again, another reference to the Angel of the L-rd being YHVH.

Many believe that “The Angel of the L-rd” aka “The Angel of YHVH” referred to in the Tanakh is Yeshua.

He did not get His start in Bethlehem. He is eternal. He appeared at various times through out the “Tanakh” period. “The Angel of the L-rd” is just one of the Tanakh names attributed to Him.
