I am a 2001 graduate of Hiram College with a bachelor of arts in Environmental Studies. My area of concentration within the major was conservation biology and Ecology. I am currently attending Miami Univeristy's Institute of Environmental Sciences and earn a M.En. Degree, or Master of Envrionmental Science. I will have a double area of concentration for the M.En degree in Applied Ecology and Resource Analysis.

Professional Interests

I am interested in vegetation ecology and applications towards natural areas management. Also, I have a passion for reptiles and amphibians. I have background in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems. Applying Geographic Information Systems software to solve biological conservation and watershed management problems are some of my other interests.

I have extensive experience in natural areas management through my 2 years of working with the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. Habitats I have worked in include glacial remant wetlands such as bogs and fens, marshes, and old growth forests. The majority of my work with the division was directly involved with the monitoring and removal of invasive plant populations, namely Garlic Mustard, Purple Loosestrife, and Glossy buckthorn. I have experience in herbicide application, using Accord, Roundup, and Garlon 4 extensively to eradicate invasive plant species.

At Miami, I have gained a broad view of the complexity of environmental problems. The Miami degree is unique, and I am developing a page that outlines the courses for my degree. In the future I can see myself working I am very much interested in the natural world, and consider myself a naturalist, and strive to have the "eye" that famous scientist Edward O. Wilson speaks so much of.
