Brother Ali: Shadows on the Sun
In March of 2003 a relative unknown released an instant classic. Brother Ali's sophmore "Shadows on the Sun" on famed label Rhymesayers dropped and became and instant classic. It helped that he had Slug from one half of Atmosphere fame backing it. While Ant the other half manned the production. From start to start Ali makes a strong stand on the lyrical front. Back with Ant on some of the most amazing beats to be heard by the human ear. The album starts out with a bang on "Room With a View" with "Just Blazish" production. From there strong steps are taken forawrd. Ali manages to paint a very vivid in each song. Half way through Ali drops "Forest Whitiker" a song with deep an inspirful meaning. He tells about how people shouldn't be concerned with their looks, and be happy for who they are. The shocking thing in this song is everything he says is true to a t. Brother Ali is albino which is a disorder where the skin has no color/pigment. Despite this Ali manages to put together an album of brillance that is worth of any critic that steps in the path of him. Highlights include "Forest Whitker", "Room With a View", and "Dorian." 9.5 out of 10 Pens A high rating for a great album. Basically what I am saying here is that if this album is not in your cd pile right now, I don't know what to tell you. Especially if you haven't heard it, it should be a crime. Get your coat, venture into the freezing cold and pick this album up at your local record shop. |
