Patients Say Risks of Hyperhidrosis Surgery Too High

In China, people with hyperhidrosis are banding together and taking action.

Recently, a group of patients suffering from excessive sweating submitted a petition to the Chinese Department of Health demanding a ban on the use of endoscopic sympathetic block for the treatment of their condition. These patients have said that the negative side effects of the operation are much more serious than what it cures, reported The China Post. One patient indicated that since undergoing the surgery his palms are dry but other parts of his body now get so sweaty that in the summer he must change his clothes ten times per day.

In response, the Department of Health has indicated that they will have experts evaluate the medical procedure and decide whether it should be banned. Before a decision is made, an official with the Department said that people should "think twice before agreeing to undergo the operation."

Regardless of the Chinese government's final decision on this matter, the action taken by the group of patients is inspirational. They are letting their voices be heard, showing their strength in numbers, and helping to educate others about the potential risk of certain hyperhidrosis treatments.
