Wanted: Your Thoughts on Gender Roles, Housework and the Irish Catholic Church
I am a student from the United States who studied abroad at University College Cork in Spring 2006. For my senior project at my school in New York, I am focusing on gender, specifically young women’s experiences, in terms of education and housework. This includes examining the ways gender is culturally constructed through educational, state and religious practices. The project is divided into five chapters. The Introduction comprises Chapter One. Chapter Two focuses on theoretical frameworks and definitions of gender in terms of social class and different societal expectations placed on women. Chapter Three focuses on issues of schooling and how it affects people’s views on gender. I will be examining how women are taught to think of their bodies and roles within society. Chapter Four concentrates on public vs. private. Views on housework in modern Ireland, familial relations within the domestic sphere, and women in the workplace will be explored. Chapter Five will be the concluding chapter. If you are a young woman over age eighteen, I would love to hear your thoughts on education and the gendered division of labor in Ireland. Please read the below consent information and look over the questions before responding. Thank you very much.
