I hovered in the searchlight, haloed
there I hung
Yet calmed as if a moth drawn to
a flame
The panic of one stalked and hunted
dried my throat and tongue
In death and life the fear smelt
just the same
To move an inch was certain death
to stay another kind
Of dying through captivity I'd know
To to turn and face my predators
and revel in their find
Would be life itself, some place
that I could go
An option, a brazen shout, a flaring
of the nose
Calling out a challenge of defiance
To call a shot and take the fate
of where the bullet goes
A hero's way of showing his reliance
On destiny for live or die, both
joys for fear can't decide
Both feel the same both offer hope
both binding
To run with either, both escapes
where love and hate collide
Insistent choices taunting for a
finding
And so I hung as instinct would
and waited for a sign
As fate called out my name to choose
my role
And so I dropped and called the
shot to prove that it was mine
And sank with destiny - uncaptured
soul
