Graduation

Graduation Day To Jennifer

credentialled I stood proudly

as pride welled out it's joy

and the offer of a future

and the distance of a boy

made of nothing at beginning

to another future born

to become adept at winning

resolutely being torn

from one struggle to another

and another shiny day

when the clouds outside don't matter

if needs be they'll rain away

if out there I'll still be watered

if inside I'll sit and play

if the time is right for working

there'll be fuel to go that way

all the older information
we were taught might still apply
available to the masses
free of charge, but who can buy?
all the hours of tortured study
meeting deadlines set too high
'cause the picture isn't perfect yet
I haven't done the sky

so credentialled I stood proudly
with my lady by my side
and a promise of a future
which is where I now reside
all the discipline I learned there
hasn't got a place to hide
but is put on show for all to see
the near, the far, the wide
all the joy we felt completing
can't compare to what's in store
if I paid the price for learning
I'll be back to buy some more
