The Phillies beat defending State Champion Braintree tonight at Randolph High School 4-2. The Phillies were led again by Rookie Right-hander Chris Martin who tossed a complete game striking out 7. Offensively, the Phillies had a balanced attack with 4 players with 2 hits. Tim Albrecht, Toby Rice, and Tim Sweeney drove in the runs for Hingham. Next up is Lowell on Saturday at Alumni Field at 12PM.

Thursday, July 10th vs Boston @ Edgars Playground in Brockton Loss 3-1

AJ Qualtieri in his 2nd career CBL start was the tough luck loser for the Phillies going the distance and allowing 3 runs (all unearned) as the Phillies were pushed from a 3 seed to a 4 seed in the upcoming Stan Muscial Tournament. Phillies bats were silent again but the culprit for the evening was 3 errors that led to the unearned runs. The State Tourney will begin Saturday afternoon at noon in Marblehead vs Swampscott.

Tuesday, July 8th vs Noton @ Norton High School Win 4-0

Chris Martin continued his dominance tonight striking out 5 and allowing only 4 hits on route to throwing his 3rd straight shut out. Martin is 5-1 on the season with a microscopic 0.96 ERA. The Phillies were paced offensively by Shortstop Tim Sweeney and Catcher Toby Rice. They both had two hits and 2 RBI. Hingham will face the Boston Broncos on Thursday night at Edgars Playground. A Hingham win should secure the 4th seed for the upcoming Stan Musial Tournament.

Wednesday, July 2nd vs Noton @ Norton High School Win 7-2

Veteran right-hander Jim Battista shook off the cob webs from a 12 day layoff to shut down the Knights 7-2 last night. Battista looked rusty early on giving up 4 hits and 1 run in the first inning but settled down to go 6 innings striking out 4 and walking only 1. The Phillies defense was again nearly flawless making only one error. The Phillies trailed 1-0 in the 5th when Nick Angelini led off with a double, moved up on a wild pitch and then scored on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by centerfielder Steve Buckley. Hingham went on to score 5 more runs in the 5th with Dan Albrecht delivering the big blow, a 3 run double.

Tuesday, July 1st vs Canton @ Legion Field in Bridgewater Win 4-0

Chris Martin (4-1) pitched one of the best games in franchise history shutting down the Canton A's 4-0 Tuesday night. Martin struck out 8 and walked none while surrendering only 1 hit over 7 innngs. In fact, Martin was perfect until the 7th inning when Mike Driscoll singled to center field. The Phillies were paced offensively by Sam DeVito and Dan Albrecht. Martin's gem marked the 2nd 1-hitter in Phillies history. Dennis Palardy 1-hit the Wrentham Wrens on June 9, 2000. Ryan Paylor is the only Phillie to throw a no hitter. A beautiful 5 walk, 2 run masterpiece vs Sandwich on July 12, 2002.

Thursday, June 12th vs Easton @ Frothingham Park in Easton Loss 4-1

The Phillies were again the home team playing on the road due to field unavailablility in Hingham. The Phillies held their own against the nationally ranked Huskies. Veteran Dennis Palardy was the starting pitcher for Hingham going 3 2/3 innings strucking out 3 and walking 3. Palardy made several big pitches but the potent Easton bats proved too much early on. Palardy gave way to rookie Brian Tanguy who pitched 1 1/3 innings strucking out 3 and walking 1 without yielding a run. The defense behind Tanguy was perfect again as shortstop Tim Sweeney and second baseman Jim Barletto continued their steady play. AJ Qualtieri and Nick Angelini pitched the 6th and 7th innings respectively. Both were sharp giving up only one run in the 6th inning. Offensively the Phillies were paced by Jim Barletto and Greg Smith who both had two hits.

Tuesday, June 10th vs Rockland @ Edgars Field in Brockton Loss 2-0

The Phillies were the home team at Edgars Playground in Brockton. On the mound for the Phillies was Chris Martin (1-1) who was masterful for the first 4 innings striking out 6 and walking only 1. Martin yielded his 1st hit in the 4th inning and surrendered only 6 for the game. Martin made big pitches when he had to and the Phillies played stellar defense behind him. The story of the game however was Rockland's Rob Monti who pitched 7 innings giving up 1 hit and 3 walks. Monti struck out 9 batters including the final two to record the victory. Hingham's lonely hit was a 2-out triple by Greg Smith.

Sunday, June 8th Game 2 Win 4-3.

Starting pitcher Ryan Paylor labored through 95 pitches and 6 innings of
work strucking out 7 and walking 5. Paylor made pitches when he needed to
and was the beneficiary of 5 Hingham double plays. The Phillies trailed
2-0 until the 6 inning when they broke through with 2 runs on a 2-run
double by Right fielder Greg Smith. The Wrentham Wrens came right back
and scored one run in the top of the 7th off of Hingham's closer Nick
Angelini. Trailing by one in the last of the 7th Jim Barletto led off
the 7th with a line drive up the middle. Tim Sweeney followed with a
sacrifice bunt moving Barletto into scoring position for catcher Tim
Albrecht. Albrecht laced an RBI double down the right field line scoring
Barletto and tying the game. Greg Smith again came through for the
Phillies singling to left center on a 3-2 pitch to plate Albrecht with the
winning run.

Sunday June 8th vs Wrentham (doubleheader at HHS) Game 1 Win 5-2

Jim Battista was the starting pitcher in game one going 5 2/3 innings
giving up only two earned runs. Battista struck out 6 and walked 1 and
looked dominating for the first 4 innings. After throwing 75 pitches
Battista gave way to closer Nick Angelini who recorded the last 4 outs to
preserve the win. Offensively, the Phillies had a balanced attack with 9
hits. As ususal, Jim Barletto and Tim Sweeney set the pace at the top of
the batting order scoring a combined 4 of the 5 runs
Tuesday June 3rd @ Norton Win 3-2

Saturday June 7th @ Canton Loss 3-2

AJ Qualtieri was the starting pitcher going the distance in this rain
shortened 5 inning game. AJ gave up 3 runs on 7 hits striking out 3 and
walking 4. Tim Albrecht and Greg Smith had the lone RBI for the
Phillies.

Tuesday-June 3rd @ Norton Win 3-2

Chris Martin pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits. Martin
struck out 5 and yielded only 1 base on balls. Brian Tanguy came on and
got the last two outs for the save giving up one unearned run. The
Phillies managed only 3 hits but scored 3 unearned runs and held on for a
3-2 win. (Game was called after 6 innings due to darkness)

The Hingham Phillies won their first game of the season tonight. The Phillies were paced by rookie pitcher Chris Martin who gave up 1 run in 5 1/3 innings. Chris threw 81 pitches, striking out 5 and walking 1. Danny Albrecht was the defensive star of the game turning a rare 9-3 double play and making a running catch in the RF corner. Dan also plated the Phillies first run with a two-out single in the 4th.

Phillies pitcher and Bucknell University Junior Cory Nadler will face defending National Champion Texas Longhorns on Friday night at 7:00 PM. This is Bucknell's first trip to a Regional since '99.

Catcher Toby Rice of Rollins College was selected to the first team All-Conference in the SunShine State Confernence this year. Toby was also selected for the second team "All South" team which is a regional award. Click here for the press release.

Congratulations to The Northeastern Huskies who won the America East Championship. The Huskies will play LSU on Friday night in Baton Rouge. NU's last Regional appearance was in 1997. The Huskies dropped two games in that regional to the Stanford Cardinal and North Carolina State Wolfpack. Current Phillies Manager Joe Paolucci was a member of that Husky team.

-John Minelli of Hull and Hingham Legion will play for the Phillies this year. John will mainly pitch in relief..

-Veteran pitcher Greg Goldman will return to the Phillies this year.

-Chris Martin recorded his first collegiate win this past week vs MIT. Chris threw 7 innings and gave up 3 earned runs while strinking out 4.

-After going 115 at-bats without a strike-out for Rollins College, Toby Rice has now k'ed only 3 times in 130 AB's. Toby is batting .353 on the season.

-I have sent out 50 letters to local buinesses in hope that we can land a couple more sponsors this year. If anyone knows of any businesses that I could send a letter to please email me the name of the buisness and a contact person. We need about $700 in sponsors before the season starts.

-The Hingahm Recreation Department will be making their decision this week about whether or not we can get Cronin field for the dates we requested. If anyone has any pull over there (Buck) feel free to give them a call

-The season opener is Sunday, June 1st at Canton. As always it will be a double header. Most likely we will go with Battista in game 1 and Paylor in game 2 just as we did last year in doubleheaders.

-Jim Barletto cracked the 100 hit plateau for his career at Weslyean. He is currently 14-30 on the season.

-The hats are in. I don't like the way they came out but they'll do.

-All pitchers please email me if you will be starting any games in MA so that I can go watch.

2/22/03

-Phillies catcher and 2002 CO-ROY, Toby Rice recorded his second Game Winning RBI of the season yesterday leading Rollins College over Nova Southeastearn University. Toby is leading the team with a .429 batting average and has emerged as the everyday catcher for the Tars.

-The other CO-ROY for the Phillies in 2002, Greg Smith made his collegiate debut for the Fordham Rams on Friday night. Smith has seemlessly made the transition from 1st base to rightfield.

-Sam Devito is also ripping it up for Eckerd College this spring. Sam is currently batting .361 with 2 homers and 10 RBI.

-Phillies 1st baseman Sam DeVito and Eckerd College's clean-p hitter had a huge day against Webber University. Sammy went 5-8 on the day with 2 jacks and 5 RBI. DeVito missed all of last summer with a leg injury, so its good to see him ripping the ball already this spring.

Chris Martin of Wheaton College and Marshfield, MA has agreed to play for the Phillies this summer. Chris is slated for Wheaton's starting rotation and will most likely be used in that capacity with the Phillies. Martin is a former HS Quarterback at Marshfield High School and he was 9-0 in his career as a pitcher at MHS.

Phillies catcher Toby Rice went 3-4 on Saturday in Rollins College's 6-5 victory over Webber International. Rice followed up on Sunday with a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the 7th. Rice is htting .800 on the young season.

Unfortunatley, we will not be able to get the two-toned hat that we wore in '01 due to budget restraints. Some expressed that the one colored hats might not be "pretty" enough for Ben Colton

The Phillies have landed former Braintree High School and Legion star, Nick Angelini. Nick is currently playing both football and baseball at WPI.

The Boston Broncos have been awarded a cranberry league franchise. The Broncos will play their home games at English High School in Jamaica Plain.

The Phillies Phundraiser II, which was held at Jose McIntyre's on 12/29/02 was a tad bit more successful than the the original Phillies Phundraiser. When all was said and done we took in $250.00

After a strong fall season last years Co-ROY Greg Smith has been named a starting outfielder for the Fordham Rams.

Sam DeVito returned from injury to earn himself the starting 1st baseman's job at Eckerd College. Sam hit over .400 in the fall.

Mike Bizzozero, a Hingham native is returning to the Phillies after a brief stint with the Rockland Cardinals. Mike played for the Phillies during the '99 season.
