| Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth, good luck and prosperity. She is usually depicted throwing Gold this symbolises wishing wealth and prosperity to her devotees. She is mentioned in the Vedas as the wife of Varuna (the sun). It is told that Lakshmi was born floating on a lotus flower in the ocean. Lakshmi is sometimes pictured with two arms and sometimes four, she does have four but is sometimes shown with two to represnt femanine beauty. Lakshmi represents the perfect wife. She is loyal, respectful, honest, loving and true! Lakshmi visits houses of her devotees at night and so her mode of transport is an owl, silent and swift it flys through the night carrying her on its back. |

| Diwali is the festival of Lakshmi, it is held on the longest night in either October or November. Diwali means row of lights so during this festival houses are filled with Diva lights (small coloured candles) and decorated iwth tinsel to attract the Goddess Lakshmi and windows are left open to welcome her. It originates from the story of Rama and Sita when they returned home after their 14 years of exhile and they were welcomed by the village people with hundreds of Lights. |
