Biography: An intelligent and extremely powerful demon who starts out as a bad guy in the anime �Yu Yu Hakusho,� he has an attitude problem and would risk his life for his pride. He�s a fire demon and possesses the Jagan eye: a third eye on his forehead that gives him psychic abilities that he covers with a white headband. He went through a painful procedure to get it so that he could find his half-sister, Yukina. The eye gave him the ability to transform into his full demon form. (He�s green with eyeballs all over him and the whites of his eyes turn yellow and his hair splits, making him look more like Wolverine from X-Men.) He possesses amazing speed (like cutting a guy 16 times in a split second) and has great sword fighting abilities. He is able to summon a powerful dragon spirit in an attack called �Dragon of the Darkness Flame,� which nearly left his right arm paralyzed after performing the attack during the Dark Tournament. He tries to avoid the attack if he can though. He�s known as the �Forbidden Child� because he was a fire demon born to an ice apparition. The other Ice Maidens considered Hina a traitor and believed that Hiei was a monster that would destroy the country. Because of this, his mother�s best friend, Rui, tossed Hiei out of the floating Ice Country of Makai---literally, but not before giving him a tear gem necklace and telling him to stay alive and to return and kill her. A group of thieves found the newborn Hiei and raised him, Hiei becoming strong and ruthless and developing a love for fighting and killing. He became so cold and evil that even the thieves feared him. In one fight, he lost the tear gem. (He eventually found it at the bottom of a river.) He went back to the Ice Country and, seeing that there was really nothing left of it, he lost his desire for killing. He met Rui and she told him that his mother had died years ago and that his half-sister, Yukina, left to look for him. That�s when he got his Jagan eye to find her. He met Kurama and chose him as an ally instead of an enemy because Kurama, being Yoko Kurama reborn, could defeat Hiei easily. (Believe it or not, Kurama is much more ruthless in battle than Hiei, especially as Yoko Kurama. Hiei mentions it when Kurama fights Genbu, the first of the four Saint Beasts.) A year later, Hiei, Kurama, and Gouki stole three magical spirit items from King Yama. (Gouki: a ball that could steal the souls of children. Kurama: a mirror that would grant one wish on a full moon at the cost of the wisher�s life. Hiei: a sword that had the ability to transform whomever it cut into a demon.) Yusuke defeated them all, Kurama saving his life at one point in his battle against Hiei. Hiei, humiliated that he had lost to a mere human, eventually joined the Spirit Detective and Kuwabara with Kurama to clear his name and they soon became friends. He and Kuwabara hold grudges, Kuwabara calling Hiei names like �shorty,� �stupid dwarf,� and �shrimp.� Even though he can be stubborn and selfish, he will do anything to make Yukina happy. Straight in what he wants to say, he is mysterious and very much a loner and it�s hard to gain his trust. He begins warming up after meeting Yusuke and realizes the value of friends. He has a strange way of letting someone know that he likes them. (�I only saved you because I might need you later.�)
Other Information: Hiei�s name means �fleeting shadow,� while Yukina�s means �snow greens.�
-The �Hi� in Hiei�s name stands for fire.
-The tear gem is actually a tear that Hina cried when she gave birth to Hiei.
-The gems that the ice apparitions cry is called the "Hirosaki Stone" and is very valuable.
-The man who held Yukina captive and forced her to cry gems was Gonzou Tarukane, an ugly gangster-like crime lord. I just call him "prune face" or "cone head," though.
-Hiei and his litte sister, Yukina, are half siblings. They have different mothers.
-"An Ice Maiden reproduces herself alone, without a male. As they give birth, they shed a tear to each baby. A pendant is made with the jewel and given to the child. If an Ice Maiden copulates with a male (obviously of another demon clan) and gets pregnant, a pure-blood Ice Maiden baby will be born together with an impure male baby of the same clan as his father. This is held as a sacrilege by their culture, and both the mother and the male baby are killed. The mother dies for her sin, and the child is thrown to the surface as being a threat to the Ice Maidens; most likely he dies. Only the pure-blood baby lives." My theory is that Hina met a fire demon, had Hiei only, Hiei was thrown out, Hina was killed, and the same father of Hiei had Yukina with another Ice Maiden..
My Thoughts: What can I say? I think he�s a wonderful character and he�s simply adorable. I really like his personality and enjoy watching him turn from being cold to caring.
